I trained as a volunteer Broadcaster/DJ earlier this year at KVMR FM, a Community Radio station in Nevada City, California.  Today, I was offered my own show.  I'm calling it "The Boomer Room".  I'll be playing a lot of 60's and 70's, but other stuff too.  Rock, Blues, Folk, Country, Jamband, a little Jazz.  Basically stuff us boomers grew up listening to.   I'll probably pick a theme for each two hour show.   I'll be on every other week, Sunday midnight to 2:00 a.m. Monday morning, California time, starting this Sunday night, August 23/24.  You can listen live anywhere in the world on KVMR.org.   Each show will also be available in the Archive section of KVMR.org for two weeks, following the show.  My first show's theme will be colors.    All the songs I play will mention colors in some manner.   (I plan to include Purple People Eater and Yellow Polka Dot Bikini).  My on-air name is "Billy the Kid".

Love this!

I did a live talk radio show on Saturday mornings with a drummer-buddy of mine several years ago and caught the broadcasting bug. We did our own bumper music, and sold commercials too. He had been in radio since college where he'd done a morning drive-time show called "Going Back To Bed, With Trevor & Ed".

If I had another go in life I might pursue something like that!

Sounds cool, congrats!  I will listen to the archived shows as they are available. :)

Bill, I shall look for your show. I remember part of a broadcasting class that I took that featured on air time at a low wattage FM station. I was given a rotating slot for my own program. Not only that, but I featured the San Francisco Sound, inclusive of bands such as Quick Silver Messenger Service, The Grateful Dead, The Jefferson Airplane, etc. it was great fun as I was a big fan of the local San Francisco station of the time with the call letters KMPX, that was definitively the model of my show that influenced me, with my own endeavour.

Had my first show last night/early this morning.  It will be available in the station archives for the next two weeks.  Click in the below link and look for "The Boomer Room" on the drop down menu.   Enjoy!

I will try that link Bill and check out the show.
I have been thinking of getting my jazz radio programme back on air. But finding a local station to take it on has been a challenge, so i'm considering hosting my own on-line station. If anyone knows any decent live streaming software for mac, i' be grateful if you could pm me some links. Preferably ones that don't have adverts too often  so i can air my own.
