Hi All - just a quick intro (appropriate since I just posted a wanted ad!). I've owned several new and old Alembic guitars over the years. Currently have a new Coco Spectrum from Eddie's and have the fabled first zebra wood Skylark on it's way from California! I poke around here often for info, but have never posted before.

Welcome, Steve, sounds like you have some nice guitars. I’m sure Bill TGO will be happy there’s another guitar guy around! There was an Orion guitar on Reverb for awhile, dropped off about a month ago I think, so maybe it will appear again. I see them show up on there now and then.

Hi Steve. Welcome to the club. It’s always nice to have another skinny-stringer hanging around here as it’s usually fairly bass heavy. A Cocobolo Spectrum sounds sweet! We love pics around here (hint, hint).

Bill, the basses really aren’t that heavy :)

Welcome to our corner of the world!
-
Thanks for the welcome - I'll post up the Spectrum tomorrow... it's gorgeous with a neck that is indescribably perfect!
-
Welcome to the board, l love spectrum guitars in fact i looked for a used one for years before settling on an orion guitar that i upgraded with a set of filter based electronics. I look forward to seeing your guitars.

Very nice! I'm one of those who plays the heavy versions of Alembics so forgive my ignorance. Would your Spectrum happen to have a cocobolo backside? If it does we have to see it that too.
-
Adding my belated Welcome to the Alembic Club, Steve. Man, that's a sweet guitar. I ain't much of a guitar player, and when I do play guitar it's mostly old beat-up Martin guitars, but I can surely appreciate that one. 8)

Nice guitar!
I have an old Series I guitar. I also have an unused set of electronics like you have in your Spectrum, just waiting for the right recipient guitar body to come along for installation.
Gotta love Alembic Guitars! :)
-
The backside is mahogany - not coco, but not bad either!!
I owned an old Series I previously... serious instrument! Mine was in very nice cosmetic condition, but it was very heavy as I recall.
I put a set of 3 single coils with electronics into a strat a few years ago... the electronics came out of a real obscure Gibson shredder type guitar from the 80's. I eventually wound up pulling the electronics and selling them and the strat separately, but I think there's an old youtube demo out there somewhere with that daphine blue strat!

Is the Skylark a bolt-on?
Would love to see the back. ;)

Very nice!
Is the Skylark a bolt-on?
No, the Skylark is a set neck.
-
Steve, I'm speachless! Wow

Very nice!
Is the Skylark a bolt-on?
No, the Skylark is a set neck.
Thanks Mica.
I don’t think I ever heard a Skylark, it looks warm and delicious.

Few more photos of the back - beautiful mahogany with a nice belly contour. Very cool that the zebra wood was deployed to the back of the headstock! Perfectly done neck joint. The instrument is in excellent condition for 17 years old, and it plays fantastic right out of the case. Very very nice.
Mica, the seller said the guitar was shipped to Alembic for a new nut and bridge along with an electronics upgrade - the nut is definitely brand new. The electronics have been changed to master volume, tone filter, tone filter, with a new pickup blend knob that is quite useful.

Yes!
Jaw Dropping.
I never really payed much mind to a "set neck" but wouldn't expect nothing less than a perfect fit and it is certainly pretty.
For me, one of the appealing aspects of Alembic (outside of the obvious electronics) is how the form of them just scream for you to touch them and appreciate the profile, blended radiis, etc. etc...
Steve, seeing as you are new here I should disclose that I really have a problem with being infatuated with the back side of these instruments; for me it displays the "basic" foundation of what is true Craftsmanship of function AND form.
The fronts are spectacular with the fancy book matched woods and shiny hardware and inlays that bedazzle them... but the back shows the simple structure behind all of that glitz and glam and I find it so oddly satisfying. :D

I'm with you pauldo. I LOVE that mahogany! Even if I ordered something super high-end, there would be no back laminate. 8)

WOW really awesome instruments!
and a late, welcome :)
