WTB: Series I, small body, 32" scale ...preferably late-1970s/early-1980s (but would consider any year), ideally in Very Good or better condition [edit: but I don't have a problem with ~30 years worth of honest wear & tear], definitely all original parts, no obvious modifications, defects, or damage.
Would also consider a Series II if it met all those other criteria.
Holy Grail? Needle In A Haystack? Anything I need to look out for? Thanks.

Keep looking as they are out there. I have 2 of them. The medium scales are my favorite.

Here’s a Series II short scale

Tempting, especially since I'm a huge fan of Padauk (aka Vermillion). But I really do want a 32" scale length.

Perhaps this could whet your whistle? Not a S1, but it is a relatively small bodied bass with 32" scale and signature electronics.

Fascinating! ...but not fascinating enough to be a fulfilling substitute for my Wanted & Wishing pipe dream! Thanks.

I agree Bob, when you want the right dream series bass, nothing else comes close. All the best with the searching and as with many things alembic, patience is a virtue.

Here ya' go Bob, a perfect match -

I LOL'd.
I drooled ...but then I LOL'd.

Well... in my defense, I didn't know what the asking price would be when I posted... gotta' admit though, I hit a ringer. You said find you a medium-scale small body - there it is. ;D
I'll spot another... gimme' a while. ;)

:::disregard; listing already sold:::
Thought I'd found one :(

Bob,
While not an S1, I do have a 32" scale 1990 EVH Signature Deluxe, walnut top, maple core, crown peghead, ebony fingerboard, 2 AXYs, each with its own volume, filter, and 3-position Q-Switch. No 5-pin cable or power supply needed...
If you want details, please let me know.
Thanks,
Dave

While not an S1...
Thanks Dave, appreciate the offer. But I've pretty much got my heart set on a Series I.
-
You got it Bob, good luck!

Best way to be Bob, when I got interested in alembics all I wanted was a Short Scale like Mr Clarke owns. But it took a long time for the right one to come along and in the meantime I was a guitarist who started getting asked to do bass gigs and found a signature which I didn't fully understand at the time wasn't a series bass. Then I a 5 stringer and I allowed myself to be distracted along the way and ended up with more alembics than I think I would have had if I'd just waited for the right S1 to come along. That said, I don' regret what I now have although my bank balance would certainly be healthier had i had stronger willpower..
There is nothing like getting your dream instrument. I see mine as a reward to me for my life in music.

Just make sure you are able and willing to deal with neck dive. Others have, in past postings, indicated that this can be an issue with small bodied basses that are not short scale ( and even some that are of the shorty nature).
-
Good point, it is a reality even with the short scale small bodied basses and something of a deal-breaker for some. I have got used to it and I do find myself making adjustments to the the way the body hangs which is neck dive and the top edge falling away from the body.
-
Obligatory bump.
Yeah, still looking. If I can't find one in the next two or three years I may have to order a new one as a retirement gift to myself!
-
Not a small body, but 32” S1

I bought my SII shorty from this seller - no affiliation, though.
Cheers, Oliver

I've got both a small bodied, short scale Series I and fretted and unfretted Standard points. If I had purchased the short scale first, I don't think I would have ever purchased the fretted Standard point. Both are unbelievable basses but for someone who is 5'8" 160 lbs. the SC is just a lot easier to play and takes less of a toll on my shoulders and back.
Be patient, check out all the possible places where postings are likely to occur and one that meets your needs will eventually appear.
