Had the first gig of the year on Saturday with a UB40 tribute gig i've depped for a few times over the years.
My main bass for reggae, the mighty all maple, black Signature Europa 5 sound great through my two barefaced cabs 1x12 and 1x18. No need to be in the PA.
I'm depping on guitar on Thursday with this local Freddie McGregor tribute band.

Gig went really well, good engaging and appreciative crowd and the band were pretty tight considering the amount of tension in the air at rehearsals.
I sense a showdown at some point.
I'm posting this picture as I have never seen the guitar display such dramatic quilting. In normal lighting the quilt is nowhere near as dramatic as that. When I first had the guitar it had a matt finish but has taken a sheen after some years of playing.

This is an older picture. I don't have a more recent full on photo. I used this setuf for a few gigs but stopped using the line switcher as the click when changing patches comes through the speakers, even though I was sold it as silent switching. :-(

Jazzy, start over. If I recall correctly, first you leave the cursor where you want the picture to be, then you drag the picture onto where it says "click or drag files here to attach them", then you click the blue arrow. Or at least I think that was right. I was having trouble with it myself when testing the site. I may have to go through the process again to remember.
Okay, did a test post. The only thing I'll add to the above is that the post has to have some text. Oh, and you can drag more than one picture onto that bar.
Next gig tomorrow. First festival of the year with UB40 tribute band called Johnny 2 Bad. The keyboard player and drummer were guys I played with way back in 92 on my first USA tours with Pato Banton, then as guitarist.

Looks like a fun event and it will have a different vibe than the typical camping festival. Have a great gig!
I've played at many of this type of festival over the years, and still have not been tempted to acquire a camper van. The crowds are great and the stages and sound is usually excellent.
Turned out to be a cracking gig, even though they started playing about 3 songs that i'd not played before.
Well you have played them now! Agree, though, that learning songs onstage at a show is not a reliable route to take. Glad to hear it was a good gig despite the changes to the set list.
The Grateful Dead did one summer tour with Bob Dylan in 1987. The Dead were Dylan's backing band and also played their own set. They rehearsed quite a bit with Bob and had a large list of songs to draw from for the tour. Dylan being Dylan called a song they had not rehearsed as the opening song of the tour... he was notorious for telling his bands they were about to play one song and then starting a different one. Sometimes you just have to roll with what is happening...
This happens on jazz gigs a lot. There are so many tunes to close from and people just call out tunes. You have to flip the charts and go with it! Adds some spontaneity and creativity to the situation 😊
Next gig on Saturday with Chris Rea tribute band. Had a few rehearsals and this will be my first gig with them. There last few gigs they had Syvin Marc who was Chris Rea's bass player for about 24 years. Big boots to fill.

Next gig.
Gig went really well, apparently the venue holds 220 people and there were 150 in the theatre. By the second half we had people dancing in the aisles which I was surprised considering the music. At the end of the gig I had about 6 people ask to take a selfie with me. I guess it's because the band leader mentioned me being a former member of a famous Reggae band. Ha.
Next gig with this band 5th September.

No, however, i went to one of their gigs there earlier this year before joining the band. It's a nice friendly pub out in the sticks with a good live music scene centred there.
They had Chris Rea's long time bass player (of 20 yrs) Sylvan Marc, on bass.

I found out at the weekend that the gig is being video'd using multiple fixed and mobile cameras. If we get a copy, for sure I will share a link to it here.
Also Chris Rea's drummer of 40yrs, Martin Ditcham has given our drummer his Sonor touring kit from 2017 so he's pretty charged up over that so will no doubt be fired up with inspiration for Saturday's gig.
Gig went well. Lots of good comments from the audience during 1/2 time and end of the gig.
I had a chat with the band leader last night and handed in my resignation. Not that I wasn't enjoying the music and the band. I just am not as passionate as the others in the band about this music, so i could not see this being a long term commitment. We had a good long chat and I did say that if they needed a dep, they can give me a call which he was appreciative about.
I wonder what is behind the next door to open for me.
