Greetings all.  I'm being responsible and selling this.  See?  I can totally be responsible.  Or something.

I imagine this was a bass made for Guitar Center or Musician's Friend back when they were dealers.  There are quite a few of these floating about in the world.

We did make lots of Essence basses with tinted finishes for GC in the early 1990s. They were in Flash Pink and Green Glow, two quite bright and very 1990s colors. They did place a pretty big order, I forget the exact amount but many 15 or 20  of each? Anyway, we weren't super excited about s many in the same color, but the buyers and store managers were really into it and wanted it even after our advice. So we started shipping them. Some sold right away, but a bunch just started sitting around.

We suggested to finished the rest of the order in a couple of different, more widely appealing colors, and they were like, no no - this is what we want. So when there were maybe 10 of these left in stock after a couple of years, we offered again to repaint them, but they had to pay for refinishing. But instead of stripping the original color off, we prayed additional translucent color over the the fluorescent ones, and they wound up with Sapphire Blue and Ruby Red, or close to them. They had a little extra brightness to the color, and fun fact: in deep scratches you can sometimes see the under color.

Anyway, another funny thing: I saw the title, and thought, "uh oh for Brian" then I saw you were being responsible and had a good chuckle. 

there was one just like that for sale at the local lutherie where i have my skilled work done a couple of years ago.  i was seriously considering as a stage bass as i had some trepidation about taking the SII with me on the bar circuit.  turns out it my fears were unfounded, i really didn't want to go back to playing a 4-string, so i passed.  i think he was asking $2k USD for it.  it was quite snappy and had that unmistakable alembic tone.  paradoxically, i wound up with another 4-string anyways.  that red probably makes for a nice look at me bass under the coloured lights.  just like a slab of cocobolo does.
