I'm not known for having a ton of patience so while my bass is being built I'm looking for a six string medium scale to hole me over. I could go for a five string as well.

Ok thanks, very nice! I wonder what the string spacing is on that one? Not sure about medium scale for 6-string basses though. Not the best scale length for the low B I think.

I have seen a couple with the wider spacing in 32 inch scale. Kinda shot in the dark finding one, I know. I have no idea when my order will be completed so figured I would look around and see if I can find one in the interim.

What is the string spacing on your 6 string Spoiler? How's the low B string sounding? Not too floppy with the medium scale?

I don't believe I have owned a medium scale 5 or 6 string. I have ownd 36 inch scale and what ever metric equivalent the old Yamaha TRB-P 6 string basses were. (33.something inches) What I have noticed about the different scales of bass guitars I have played and owned, is how the B string reacts to attack. Meaning that I approach the right hand picking of the string differently according to how that string responds for that particular instrument and scale length. Longer scale instruments tend to react more desirable to harder attack. The tone is huge when the string is struck hard! Feels powerful. On the Yamaha (shortest scale B string I have played) I could get a powerful sound as well, I just couldn't hit the string as hard. It felt like the string wouldn't "recover" as well as a longer scale bass.

I'm interested to hear the bass I'm having built and also would like to say that Susan and Mica would NOT let a customer order something that wasn't going to sound it's best or be playable.

I had a 14mm and still have a 15mm spaced six string bass. Really love that spacing. More 6 string builders should use it. Curious how much spacing this Alembic has exactly.

These older (70's/80's) 5 and 6 string basses mostly have the Classic taper, compared to the comfort taper that means narrower at the bridge and wider at the nut. (hence the tighter stringspacing)

The comfort taper is the standard now for 5+ string basses and was introduced in the 90's or late 80's I think. (with the Essence or Europa?)

If the B string is too "floppy", you might want to use a heavier string :-) I have used my 88 Spoiler tuned ADGC (one step below the low strings of a fiver) for years without problems. In my experience, shorter cale makes the bass sound heavier/darker.

2" at the nut, 2.5" at the 24th fret .  I always played it with a pick and never had issues with the low b.
