Current draw of Series electronics

Hello all!

Maybe the subject was discussed before... I'm just curious about the current draw of Alembic Series electronics, powered by the DS-5, on the two 18V rails.

I don't know the actual current draw, but from conversations here on the forum over the years, it seems be that the batteries will only last for about 20hrs of play time.

I only used an Alembic power supply on my series instruments.

I knew this once ... but I've forgotten. :)  I've built a couple power supplies using pre-made linear "encapsulated" units and I've used two different types.  One sold as "4-watts" and one as "10-watts".  These units provided +/- 15VDC at 0.1A or 0.3A per leg.  The Series circuit board contains five 5534 OpAmps plus three FET amps.  As Jazzyvee mentioned, it's a fairly heavy draw for 9V batteries (+/-9) to sustain.  That leads me to believe the actual draw of the circuit board is somewhere between 0.025A and 0.05A?  (25-50mA per leg)

Ironically, I think the LEDs originally used plus their drop-down resistor consumed more power than the preamp boards.  That's why they were not operational when running on battery power.  I think LEDs have become more efficient in recent years...

I hope you've enjoyed this answer from somebody who doesn't really know what he's talking about.  :o

well i gotta do some maintenence on one of my DS-5's (my gig unit takes a beating) here in the next week or two.  i could probably hook a milli-ammeter in the +/- 15 busses and measure what the SII pulls from each leg if that would be helpful.  i would imagine it's probably not much dfferent than what a SI would pull.  i'll hafta shut the LEDs down, though..

I'm in the middle of assembling a small pedalboard centered on a Darkglass Anagram (that requires a whopping 2000 mA, 9V power supply). I have a little device powered by two 18V pedal outlets that I use to power my Series I, but I want to know how many watts I can ask them...
