that bass must be cursed to show up like a bad penny ever 6 months or so under less than savory circumstances.  good luck to all!
Been down...now i'm out!

If true..... it's 140 miles south of me. $7500 for a series II 5-stringer seems too good to be true.  It was "for sale" twice in 2025.....BeenDown had reservations about the last seller in TX.

Where are you, Gary?  I'm guessing the Olympia area?  I'm in the greater Everett area.  You have quite the collection.

That Roman Conqueror bass looks amazing but I imagine it may well be a chore to play.  I had a 4-string JPJ Custom for a number of years and it sounded incredible.  It was heavy AF (something like 13 pounds) and the neck is oddly pushed left.  Where first position "should be" is about the 3rd fret.  As a result, I wound up staring at my hands a lot more than I care to when I played that instrument.

It's interesting......I've been very fortunate to never have back problems.  In my younger days, I used to carry 40# backpacks hiking for a weekend!  A few hours with an Alembic is a piece of cake.......with a 4" padded strap.  I'd never use anything less.....and the Levi leather straps never lent to "neck dive."  Use the right tool for the job.

We should get up a world-wide pool... where does Roman Conquerer appear next?  And bonus points if you correctly guess which platform the scam is posted on.  ;D

Here we are in mid-August and that listing is Still Here on Craigslist!  I'm surprised no one has called foul on it.

I feel bad for the next person who actually sells that bass.

How? Photos fake, or instrument is real but seller doesn't have the instrument? Or?

The pictures are taken from a past sale ad. That's usually a red flag the ad is a scam. A highly customized Series II 5-string at a too-good-to-be-real price is another. That it pops up for sale randomly all over the planet with the same ad pics and often font is strike three.

That particular bass may hold the record for being the most scammed Alembic ever, and I have never had a criminal mind enough to understand this strategy. As far as Alembic basses go, it's instantly recognizable, particularly if you're shopping for a thing like that. So if you're running a hustle, why pick that bass? Why not a zebra Series bass? Or a koa Spoiler? Or a maple Elan? Something there might be a few dozen of instead of a quilted cocobolo, extra long-scale, triple omega 5-string with a custom Roman numeral inlay.

Lastly, I would not reply to that ad on grounds that it may be even more malicious than a money scam. I replied to what looked like a legitimate ad for a Martin guitar several years ago and had an email account dorked.

I'm with Nova C, feel sorry for the next guy who has to sell that bass. Nobody's gonna' believe it.
