I got a text a few minutes ago that Dolly Parton has died. My buddy John over at BT is working on the obituary for her bluegrass contributions. 💔

I had just played her Grammy nominated "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" with Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette from the Album "Honkey Tonk Angels" on my radio show.    What a unique voice and person.

I have loved her since she angered the fans by replacing Norma Jean on The Porter Wagoner Show as a lass of 21  with.....a normal build, let us say.

Great writer, skilled player, angelic singer, and a brilliant businesswoman.

She will be greatly missed, and we should always remember her words of wisdom - "You wouldn't believe how much it costs to look this cheap."

Saw the news earlier today.  A pretty amazing life.

Do not own any of her catalog but I really respected her life accomplishments.  My favorite quote: "it's expensive to look this cheap!" 

She did so many kind things with her fame and fortune.

Shortly before I joined Acoustic Endeavors on bass in 1994, they were working at Dollywood. She employed a bunch of local people there, even back then, and I can't imagine what it's like today. Anyway, two band members opted to stay there for the regular pay and steady work of the theme park stage, and dropped out of the band... which opened the spot for me. You really couldn't find anyone to say an unkind word about her.

Always fascinated me how she could reach a wide range of audiences. One of my youngest GenZ trainees was a huge Dolly fan. Vacationed in Pigeon Forge twice a year. Butterfly tatt. What Would Dolly Do? bumper sticker. Easily she had three or for generations of fans. Last year, I even noticed a Dolly Parton tribute act on one of Jazzyvee's festival gigs in the U.K. It had never occurred to me she had international appeal. 

She was for real!
