Thanks. But despite what the Interweb says, I wasn’t born in January.  :)

There was a picture of you in one of the alembic facebooks earlier this week wishing you a happy birthday. So I may just go over there and tell them it's wrong. :-)

It's ok.  There are so many really nice responses posted everywhere that I'm just gonna go with it.  In fact, I may look into changing my date of birth. ;)

I look at it this way not many people can claim more than one birthday so I say celebrate them all.

That's true.  And at the speed I'm aging I wouldn't be surprised to discover that each year now counts as two  Yikes!

True story; Barbara Eden changed hers. Or rather she just didn't correct the error... and let everyone believe the 1931 on her birth certificate was really 1934. Thataway, she didn't get charged for the bonus years in 1964 when the 20th Century Fox deal came along... still 30.

You're only as old as you feel, right? I think bass players age like in dog-years or something. I'm like... 392 now.

Jimmy,

Looks like the fall Orbital tour is a European tour, any chance there will be some US shows?

Also, sounds like you have some kind of reverb or delay in that video, do you use that effect often?

You guys don't miss a thing. ;D

I've been a fan of Gary Husband's passionate playing (drums OR keys!) since we first played together back in the mid-80's.  And we've made some crazy musical racket together on and off over the years.

I'm at a point where it takes a LOT to get me to leave home for something other than my main touring job.  And I'm a bit old for these EU jazz runs which are often pretty grueling experiences.  But this rare opportunity to play with my longtime pal feels like something I should jump into.

The way it seems to work for these types of tours is the band is formed first - and then the booking agent tries to "sell" it to a bunch of venues.  There's still a big circuit of jazz clubs and festivals in the EU so we'll see what they can put together.

Sadly, attempting to tour this kind of music with a relatively unknown band in the US is nearly impossible.  When I was working with Holdsworth in the 90's we reached a tipping point where the clubs could no longer pay enough to sustain the travel/hotels and food needed to get from town to town.  And he was a known Artist.  Now days there can only be short runs on the east coast, west coast or midwest and then we have to go home and save up enough money to do it again later.   :o

Now I need to start practicing to see if I can keep up with these monsters!  I love Gary's composing but much of it is in odd meters with unusual phrasing.  It's gonna take me a minute to be comfortable with it.

In the end - it's nice to have this potentially fun tour to look forward to and the musical challenge to keep my brain working.

Cheers!
Jimmy J

Oh Rob, that's just a bit of ProTools D-Verb plugin on the bass for this little clip.  Why not?

Appreciate your explanation of touring in the US.

Asking for a friend…
Are we great yet?

Glad that you're getting this opportunity, and happy to hear that the EU still supports jazz (and I'm guessing Japan still does as well).
