At 10:45, Rami said I like the idea of keeping it simple.  Within an hour however, he was asking about a 7-way mode selector!  Just another example of the fact that we are all constantly changing.

Well, it would all be on 1 control switch!

That McIntosh amp also has a phase inversion switch, low and high pass filter switches, concentric Bass and Treble controls for each channel, compensated loudness switch.....
 
Talk about cutting edge technology from the early 60s!
 
Something that sets Alembics apart (as with McIntosh amps) are the electronics - total control of the sound.

Dad thinks that's a way cool idea, so we're on. I'll work on the control layout and post soon. It would be easier with a 2 volume arrangement, he'll have to figure out if he needs to add a buffer amp to make it work. Either way, 'twill be cool.

The 2 Vol layout is fine too.  I was kinda toying with that mode selector idea each time I fiddled with my McIntosh amp.  I'm glad I brought it up.   This will definitely be the greatest Alembic ever!  I think this will definitely maximize the potential of the Series II concept - total control of the sound.
 
I guess we'll also have to have a master volume too.  In the end, it'll look like regular Series II electronics (all 8 knobs), but instead of a pickup selector, we'll have that 7-way mode selector.

   It almost sounds like a super PRS-type set up.  Just think about whether you will need to change on the fly.  A 7-way rotary might take a little more attention than one can give it during a song.  I know my 5-position rotary on my CE24 is not conducive to changes mid-song.  I think it might help to at least have a chicken-head knob. But what do I know about bass?

The control layout will be somewhat limited since we only have one backplate on this bass. The preamp card will be mounted to the backplate, and that limits the size of the components underneath.

***sigh*** the moment we all think YESSSSSSSSSSS ...the Alembicians are going to give birth at last of that Rami wonder. HA ....nope ....what do you get??? Brother Rami just gets another wild idea delaying the labour for about 6 months again.
Oh well ...I guess he's pushing our bouderies a little further.

Sorry Paul, I couldn't resist the urge to bring that idea up any longer.    
Another thread about audiophiles got me to look closer at my old McIntosh amp.  That's when I remembered the parallel between McIntosh and Alembic - innovation in design and electronics.  It may delay the birth of the Black Byrd, but since it'll probably be a while before I contemplate another, it's still worth it.    
And Who knows?  It may not even be feasible in the end. Until it's done, it's still just an idea.  
I'll leave the off setting to the power supply.
