Low Action Setting
« Reply #225 on: August 28, 2007, 07:26:41 PM »
I've specifically noted this on the work order - though low is what we do unless we're requested to do otherwise. We figure it's a cinch to raise the action, quite another task to lower it if it's never been there.

Logo Recap

Hey Mica,

I don't mean to beat a dead horse into the ground, but I couldn't remember per our last conversation what the outcome was going to be.

I may have given you the impression that I didn't want the solid gold logo but I really do at least want a price in case it is within what I have prioritized in my mind as being within reason.

I can't remember what was the outcome of the phone call as I was having to much fun talking to you.

So could you please at least follow-up on a price for me. I know it is not a priority as far as timing so I am not shaking about that at all. In fact, I am pretty sure you said the jeweler was on vacation or going on one so don't worry.

But I hope we are on the same page as far as what I am asking a price for. It is a price for the inlaid solid gold logo with the pearl clouds and the nice colored abalone lower portion or whatever it is that you use on those. But I do have the sun rays special ordered so I do want to go ahead and do it the niciest as possible if I am within a thousand or so.

So thanks for your time and I hope you are in good health.

God Bless, Paul

So on the build record, there were noises of including the sapwood. If it's something you really want to do, please confirm with me here and I'll get a placement photo posted. Let me know if you want to catch the sapwood at the outside edge or growing out of the neck on the inside edge. I don't think we'll be able to get both.

Honestly Mica,

I'm not sure what you are refering to as the sapwood. Is it the white wood in the middle? Or is it the dark edges in this case?

Let me put it this way, I trust your decision to pick out the best way to position the wood and grains. I can't honestly tell over these pictures and the bottom line is you folks do the best and I mean best job of deciding. So I really like to leave it totally up to you.

Thanks, Paul

Actually Mica, I did finally figure out that the lighter color wood is the sapwood and if it came out on the tip of the horn or something of that nature that would be fine. But if anything I would leave it to showing on the inside as growing out of the neck so to speak. If a little showed on the outside edge it would not matter to me either.

So I guess I am saying that it wouldn't matter to me if it were anywhere on the bass. It's up to how you can make the best position agreeing with the rest of the grains.

Again I am totally open to however it comes out.

Surprise me!!

Thank you , Paul

Normally, we don't include the sapwood (the white part in Coco Bolo) unless there is a specific request to do so.

If you don't mind what we select, we will be happy to surprise you - it's not something we get to do that often these days.

I know that. I have noticed. I am really actually excited to get what you decide. I have seen the ones you have done and they are awesome. I would be fooling myself to think I could do better by exchanging pictures let alone if I were there.

Final Answer

Hi Mica,

I am really sorry about this but now I finally, finally finally, see the difference in the balance and the balance K. I couldn't figure out what was going on as I compared and looked at other basses. Now I see the difference near the lower neck where the cutaways are.

I am glad that we are where we are because I caught this before it was to late. I am glad that Michael just happen to email me and congradulate me because it caused me to go back and look at his bass one more time.

Yes His is the bass body the I want. I now know what the difference is. So please change my order as long as the neck that you have started for me is OK with this change.

I do want the balance with the pistol grip. Not the balance K after all.

That is why I started a new thread here so that you would take note. There is no need for me to now talk to Susan as this is my final answer.

The only other thing that we will now have pending is the gold logo which I am pretty sure that I want. If you could just get me that price then I will probably give you the go ahead on it and we will be set.

Thanks again, Sorry for the confusion.

Paul

Alright, Paul. Also, you should notice that the Balance Point (the one that Michael's is based on ) is a bit w-i-d-e-r in the body.

The neck can accept just about any body at this point.

I'll let you know as soon as I hear from the jeweler on the gold logo.

Awesome Mica, Thank you.

I am aware of the wideness as that is somewhat of the reason that I like that design. So thanks for letting me know that.

I have a sort of lump in my throat as I know that I am making a big decision but I just really love the look of that bass and those lines are what attract me more than the K.

So again I appreciate it and thanks for checking into the logo also.

I trust that you have a nice piece of Quilted Coco Bolo for me.

We are narrowing this down to a really nice bass and I appreciate your patience with me in making up my mind as we go. The forum has been very helpful for me.

Dear Susan and Mica,

The anticipation is killing me of course but that is not the reason that I am calling.

Susan, how are you? How is the Pistol Grip design coming? I mean this in true regard to how the outcome is, in your opinion.

Based on the fact that the Balance K is a smaller body, how in your opinion is the Pistol Grip sizing up so-to-speak? In other words, in your humble opinion is there not enough wood up on that horn to have a decent looking Pistol Grip without it just looking to chinsey? I would much rather have a flowing look to the horn than have it look out of balance because there isn't enough meat up there to come up with a smooth Pistol Grip effect.

So I just propose to you after you seeing the progress that if the Grip actually takes to much wood out of the area to have a flowing blending in with the instrument then please alert me so that I may pay you for your time and we just revert back to the original horn and move forward.

I am not at all at a loss if I helped the process of finding out the the Balance K is in keeping with it's original design to reduce weight not abliging to the Pistol Grip design.

I would be happy to have been a part of the experimentation process and would be glad to have contributed monetarily to this process.

So after the usual Monday Morning smoke clears and all gets back on track for the week would you please call me to discuss the matter and see if we just need to scrap the Pistol Project?

Many Mahalo's, Paul da Plumma

Hey Susan,

I would like to talk to you this week if possible about my pistol grip. I have come up with a design that I would like to show you.

I had the discription written down here but I deleted it and will explain this week.

Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul,

You can email the idea to us or fax it to us so we'll all have the same picture in front of us when we speak.

Since we recently finished the inlay design work, the neck can get some more progress with the front LED positions established. So far, the body shape has not interfered with the production of your bass.

Tuesday is the best time to talk. What's a good time for you?
