What is a 'rub out' a term luthiers use at the end of a guitar's construction. just curious. thx

A rub out is when the finish is sanded and buffed to make it smooth for either the next coat of finish or the final high gloss finish. A fuller use of the term would be rubbing out the finish imperfections. It is a term used by most anybody that does wood working or finishing.
