I have had this bass for 15 years. It comes in its original case with 'The Jackson 5' stencilled on the lid and a Jackson catalog number J5 A01 scratched into the brass back-plate.Further history and information on this bass would be appreciated!!

Cool!! Welcome to the forum... we love pictures around here. If you have any and would like to share them, we'd love to see them.

Be patient with the serial number search. They are paper files in the office in Santa Rosa and looking them up is on a long list of things that Mica does. It normally takes awhile.

Sounds like you have Jermaine jacksons old alembic Bass, back then lots of artists prefered fender basses & didnt hold on to their alembics for long .......so wait for mica to chime in with info on the bass because you might own a peice of musical History there!....my alembic was once owned by the guy from the Group 'Blue Oyster Cult' & was used on the recording Godzilla.in the early 70,s

Found the scant information that is typical of records this old. Here's all I know:

serial number: 74-77
model number: LSB4
top: Bird's-eye Maple
body: Walnut
back: Bird's-eye maple
neck: Walnut (light wood not identified)
peghead veneers: Walnut
originally made for: LD Heater (our distributor at the time)
birthday: not recorded

There is a note that my mom hand delivered this bass (and probably others the same day). We would drive up to Oregon once in a while to drop things off. I remember those long drives even though I was only 4 years old when this bass was completed.

There is no record of Jermaine Jackson's ownership, but the photograph does match the description well and it looks the right age.

The light colored wood in the neck is likely to be either Birch or Maple.

Why not ask Jermaine Jacksun? (Wikipedia says he's changing his name to this.)
Players may not remember every P bass they ever wore out, but I bet they don't forget an Alembic.
