DS5-R top cover
« on: February 02, 2007, 04:42:26 PM »
Mica,

I'm about to obtain a used DS5-R. The top cover with the side rackmounts is in pretty bad shape and I would like to replace it with a new one. Can you tell me how much this single top cover would cost and how I can order one?

Thank you.
Duncan

We order the sheetmetal in full chassis - that is to say one bottom for each lid. I will have to ask Tony on Monday if there are any surplus parts available for you. If there is, I'll determine a price based on condition (we may have a scratched one that is otherwise sturdy for your purposes).

Thank you very much Mica. That would be very appreciated. A scratched lid should be no problem.

I have one more question in that respect. Do you have any suggestions what to use to blacken little spots and scratches on the front of the DS5-R? I would like to have the front nicely touched up.

Sharpie pen should work. It will wear off after a while, then just touch up.

Otherwise, you can get enamel paints from hobby shops that sell supplies for model trains. These will usually be shinier than the finish on the power supply.

It's hard to get an exact match, but one of these methods should get you close and if nothing else, much more black.

Thanks for your suggestions Mica.

I hope Tony has a spare lid lying around.
