Aussie Spyder8 pics at last

Last night I enjoyed the hospitality of fellow club member Peter Jonas. Took my Spyder8 and Acme B2 and B4 to compare with his Epifani 3x10. Also got to play Peter's beautiful 77 Series 1 as well as his Fenders.

Paul - yes it is nice to play - although very different to a short scale S1. My technique doesn't do this beautiful instrument justice - and it is very frustrating that demands on my time recently have meant that I haven't been able to play it nearly as much as I'd like.

Brother Dean, as long you have the willingness to learn and to start something new you have your entire live before you! Even as a bass-player and on 8 strings!!!!

Very cool David,

Thought you'd never ask...

There is no question that both the B2 and B4 have better bottom end (better extension and slam) than the Epi - which seemed to have a pronounced mid range.

We were using an F1X, SF2 and tube compresser into a Peavey 1400 power amp - 500Wpc into 4 ohms in a single rack space. Very nice set up.

Tube compressor, hmmm...I'm curious, what model would that be?

Valentino,

The tube compressor is a TL Audio Indigo C-2021. It is a very recent acquisition of mine, and the jury is still out on what effect it has on the sound of the bass, and if it is a useful addition to one's gear in a stage environment.

I have not had a lot of time to sort this out, but I'll keep you posted.

Regards,

Peter Jonas

Ps: Sorry about the poor quality of the photo

The cab comparison is interesting. I actually use the B210 and the Epi 310 in my stage rig. In that config, the 310 is more pronounced and deeper. I'm using the F1X and a QSC PLX 1602 in parallel. I imagine that the 410 moves more air. DNB I'm sure that you'll aclimate to the 8 in short order. That's one hell of a great instrument to learn on! I enjoy the different scale and type of Alembics that I have. Each one has it's own voice and character. Seeing your Spyder make me want to change the strings on my Exploiter and dust off the typewriter technique. Congrats.

Here they are (the pictures).

It is a long and nice story how it has become mine. When the previous owner (my good friend Manfred) decided to sell it, he offered me first option to buy it, and I took up his offer.  Although the ownership has changed, the bass has remained in the family.

It is now tuned as a standard bass, and it is still in fantastic shape.
