These were a special model we made for Shinseido only. They have channel bridges, chrome switches, original pickup mounting locations. We made them with Series I or Anniversary electronics. In either case, they have the pickup selector mounted on the lower horn.

Also, we used the original templates with the flatter bottom and I believe they had fixed nuts, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Some had no truss rod cover.

Hi Mica,

Thanks for your reply. They look like fantastic basses. What period would they have been made, and were there many produced?.

Series iii,

I once did something awfully foolish regarding a 20th Anniversary Bass - I sold it.

Best wishes,

Simon.

What is a channel bridge as compared to the standard bridge?

Keith; I'm guessing the word channel refers to the shape of the bridge on the older Series basses.  Take a look in the Showcase section; notice how the bridge is more one-piece than the newer bridges that are screwed together, and that the one piece is U shaped or channel shaped.  For instance, the second picture on this page.

I believe they had fixed nuts

Mica - My 77 has a non-adjustable brass nut - I had assumed the previous owner had replaced it - when did the adjustable nut become standard?
I was thinking of ordering an adjustable nut for it.

My '76 Series 1 guitar also has a non-adjustable nut.  This was standard at the time.  I've already talked to the elves about replacing it with an adjustable nut when I bring her in for a tune-up.  No problem.

I'm told that 811952 had one of the first, if not the first, adjustable nut, and that was fitted in 1982 I think.  Alembic and JAE used my bass as the test bed for it, according to Beverly.
