Alembic Media Player - Download link rigth NOW!
« on: November 06, 2006, 08:02:59 PM »
Ok, enough talking now, there it is, download/unpack and check it out!

The photo should/could be one of Alembic instrument used for the track, and one of your band or yourself on an other track.
The annotation should/could explain briefly about your Alembic instruments, and on an other track about your band or yourself...
The info link below the picture, could have one track go to the Alembic website, and one track on your website, or wherever is good... (nothing illegal though!)

Common, talk to me now!

Thanks,
LG

PS: the first two tracks are from the baddest boy on this forum...
Who could that be?

Here is my story; who cares wether you can play good or not?
Music is not about how fast you can go, or how crazy you can do it, or how technical you are...

Music is about sharing a bit of yourself with the world, it's a universal language, so if you got yourself a $20000 custom and are embarrassed to share because you cannot play like Stanley Clarke or Jaco Pastorius... don't worry, everyone has got a strength and a weakness, and that's life. If you are late for work and need to run, for instance, are you gonna ask yourself: I shouldn't run because I cannot run as fast as Carl Lewis, therefore I am embarrassed to run, and I shall walk and be late for work... and get penalized maybe...

Same goes for the rest, so we want to hear things, that accompany those nice pictures you have out there...

And don't forget, by doing so, we are helping Alembic directly, so potential customers and musicians can check it out properly.
Alembic has help me get my project going in right direction, so I want to help back...

PS: If you can't play, at least make it sound nice  LOL

Thanks,
LG

If you are having difficulties with the previous link, got to the following page and PC/right click + download - Mac/Ctrl click + download, make sure you DO NOT DO a single/simple click (for a couple of reason, 1) it would open in full, 2) you could get some warning message due to new implementations in browsers...)

Basically, it's a mini self contained Flash player, you can then launch it directly from you computer, as long as you are connected to the internet...
It will update the growing playlist (as long as people get involved...)

Hey lg71, I just commented in the other thread. No offense, but I don't particularly want to download a player. I don't know why, it's just that I see the link, and I really hesitate to download it into my computer.

Personally, I think that people should host their own stuff and then link to it. It took me a long time to figure out, but it is doable. I sometimes wonder why more people don't record their instruments on these forums (not just the Alembic one), but I think the main reason is that it's a lot of work and requires a certain amount of equipment and dedication to figuring it out.

I don't mean to poo-poo your project though! I appreciate that you're trying to motivate us!

I would just say that this thread, as well as some others put here, belong in the Miscellaneous area.

I'll also echo that I favor individuals arranging for the hosting of their own clips.

That's fine, everyone is free. Let's hope some of us participate in this easy straight forward project.

For your interested and peace of mine, the player is ULTRA LIGHT only few KBs... You are  not installing anything by downloading it, and doesn't read any info from your computer either, all it does, is read a playlist, and make it available on the player itself, you are not downloading anything, it's 100% safe.

May I ask you what are you worry about?
Would you react in the same way if this player was hosted by Alembic, or Dave?

I don't have a problem with that.

I just wanted to demonstrate and show something, useful, innovative and interesting. There are people that always come with big fancy talk, but they never show you anything, I just don't want to be one of them, so I mentioned, I show it, if you don't like it, it's a shame, because it a nice opportunity for all of us.

Never mind, if Mica doesn't approve, it won't happen anyway.
I never said I wanted to host the player, this is just a demonstration. I can see it's not very well perceived or appreciated. I am fine with that.

Thanks,
LG

Just a little extra note, in case someone misunderstand the way this player work again:

It DOES NOT host anything at all, NO MP3s, NO PHOTOS, musicians willing to participate would host their own files, on their own website, if they don't have a website, they can ask a friend they trust to do so. The player itself need to be hosted by someone who can maintain the playlist properly, and for example, if you deleted a song or a photo from your hosting website, it wouldn't appear anymore on the player.

I wasn't planning on hosting your music on my website in any way, not that I don't like you, but simply because I have a limited bandwidth every month.

So, there you go, you would host your own stuff, the player is just like a radio, exactly the same as when you guys point to video from yourtube.com, as simple as that!

I would have greatly appreciated, if you asked me how it worked before assuming things that are incorrect, again I am fine with that. I am used to it.

I hope that no-one is confused or worry, look at this more like a listing player, that's all.

As far as I am aware, people got to things like Myspace and bla bla bla... to get heard and noticed, period. Many musicians struggles to get noticed, and I haven't met many musicians who really want to play for themselves, and be heard by no-one else. But I am sure there are some out there...

A last word, this idea was to benefit everyone, including Alembic, Ron, Mica, Valentino and the complete family.

For the members who may be wondering what the player looks like (showing empty listing/playlist):

This is the exact dimension in pixels, it can list 1000s of tracks, can also be emailed to friends, relatives, customers...
It can work on its own or can be embedded on a web-page, mini or fully expanded up to the size of the browser...
Each track listed can have; a photo, a brief scrolling text/annotation + link to a website...
Easy to maintain (only 1 person is required/needed to update the playlist), pretty flexible, small... but BIG!

I'll wait 'til my Birthday - then, will terminate the offer, for good.

Hey LG,

I like your project. I have nothing to post yet though and I can't download the player at the moment either as I am on tour so to speak and don't have my own computer with me. But I will take a look at it when I get back home.

LG,
After reading that, I can't agree with you more. Isnt music just about playing something you like? I would like to hear how an Alembic sounds. Does anyone have any recording without this player, like on youtube or anything? Ive watched this one british guy try to beat the London clock, but didn't really hear too much of its tone since he was going so fast. The speed he was going it sounded just like any other bass.

Hi Hartmut,

Thanks, I've just added the first volunteer (Chris aka Bumhucker - thanks a lot Chris!), looking  forward to get some of yours listed!

-----------

Jsaylor,

Thanks for your support. Have you heard the tracks on the player? This would be a first step...

Otherwise, go on youtube.com and type in Stanley Clarke, he is The Alembic Boss player...

The fast guy is Mark King from Level 42, an other Boss... Likewise, do a search under those names, although he doesn't always play Alembic.
If you like him/them I'd recommend the Album called Level 42 from 1981...

There are other Alembic players out there of course, check the relevant section on this forum. HTH

-----------

In case there are other members interested, all I need from you is a URL/link to one or two of your MP3(s), playing your Alembic(s)...
This is the MINIMUM requirement, REALLY! That's all... But:

- You can make it better/nicer by providing a URL to a photo(s) of the bass(es), which has to be 130/130 pixels in.jpg format (try optimizing/saving it under/max 75% quality), and maybe an other photo of you or your band if you link to a couple of tracks...

- You can also provide a link/URL under the info button, for instance, if you have two tracks, one could go to your website, and the other one to the Alembic website...

- A short phrase/annotation, with your name/band/track name... and what Alembic wood/electronics were used for the track(s).

It would be nice to have this project working/moving in the right direction, especially as Christmas is approaching...

I have updated the download page: Over here please...
