Did a new thread on improvisation get started?
 
Garage Mahal is very interesting.  For those of you who have never heard them, it might be worth your time to go to archive.org and listen to some of their stuff.  Fareed is a very good guitar player, quite interesting; and the bass player is Kai Eckhardt.  Kai is a great bass player!
