Bass/treble for filter/q or just treble for filter swap?
« on: May 06, 2007, 03:17:32 AM »
I'm seriously considering adding a filter my Orion, and I was hoping to be able to do this myself. I don't have a filter and q-switch yet, but they shouldn't be too hard to find.

Another option is only replacing the treble for a filter, leaving the bass control where it is. My Elan had Persuader electronics and I discovered that I didn't really miss having the q-switch. To be able to boost bass while shaping tone with the filter would be great!

Would a combination of bass + filter work technically, and not interfere with each other? And again, is it just a case of one-on-one (no soldering) replacing the treble control with the filter, or is there more to it?

Thanks!

I think that the bass and treble control is a single unit, and not really separable without some serious work.

You should be able to daisy chain a filter in after the bass and treble controls, however.

And I know that Alembic will sell you a filter + switch to replace the bass and treble controls.

I had another thread around here entitled Ghetto East meets West with the idea of adding a filter to my Epic's existing electronics.

When I was at the recent get together, I asked Ron about it, and he confirmed that it is doable (but might require some soldering).

Thanks Bradley! It's a big dilemma. I love the Orion's natural sound, and I've got a SF-2 for every imaginable filter sound. But still I think I prefer filter/q instead of bass/treble. With previous Alembics I constantly played with the filter/q settings to find the 'tone of the day'. It's just that I'd love to be able to add bottom to the filter sound with the bass control.
