Alembic Europa custom 5
« on: March 05, 2026, 05:01:59 AM »
Hi guys,
I'm thinking about getting a used Europa 5 strings 2018 custom shop, with red leds, do you think 6000 euro is fair?
It has a custom logo but well, if it sounds great that's not a problem...
thanks for feedback!

Al

It's hard to say without seeing it. That may be a fair price in Italy, but €6000 = about $7000, which is a bit much for even a very nice Europa 5 here, even with some custom options.

I'm not familiar with how these trade in your part of the world, but it seems a bit overpriced to me. Also, be very cautious especially if this is a Reverb listing. They are experiencing a very high volume of scam ads lately.

Best of luck.

Over here in Europe it is much more difficult to accurately value alembics as they are still relatively uncommon so quite hard to shop around for alternative models in the same year and condition. So if you find an alembic you really like it's unlikely that you will find another anytime soon if you don't buy it.
From my own experience I have tended to base my own purchases on answering these questions.
Is that particular bass the one i "really" want and am i prepared to pay the buyer's price?
If the answer is no to the first then, no point going on. If it's no to the second, i will offer the seller what my max price would be and if agreed. Sale goes ahead. you can always look for sold europa basses on reverb and ebay and estimate a reasonable offer. That was the method I used as the last alembic bass i bought was a offered to me at £10k and when I presented him with the range of values I found on reverb for basses that age, and offered what I was prepared to pay, he agreed which was way way way less.I hope you find a way to acquire it. Europas are amazing basses. Any photos you can share when you have made your decision either way would be good to see.

This bass has a somewhat rare African Blackwood top and 3 Ebony neck laminates. Heavy, but must be a tremendous tone.

Yes, that's a wild custom. With all that ebony and purpleheart in the neck, combined with the African blackwood... I'm surprised it isn't heavier. Not surprised at the pricing now either.
