Serial Numbers Question From Newbie
« on: June 30, 2004, 07:20:57 PM »
Question For Any/All:

Regarding serial numbers and their locations, the support section of this website states:

on new instruments - stamped on the truss rod cover and in the electronics cavity

MY new Excel has the serial number stamped on the rear of the headstock, followed by the letters 'USA'.  Now this, in and of itself, probably wouldn't concern me, EXCEPT that the serial number on the instrument is also NOT the same serial number listed on the documentation that came with it.  They are VERY close, being only ONE digit off, but they ARE different.

I sent an email to both Val and Mica for clarification, but as yet have had no response and my curiosity is getting the better of me.

Anyone have thoughts/observations about all this?

THANKS!

Hi Steve,

The set neck basses have the serial number stamped on the back of the peghead, and they all say USA at the end. I should update the serial number page to reflect this difference.

As for the paperwork, it's likely just an oversight on our part. If the description doesn't match, perhaps your delaer confused it with another Excel bass on display.

I did not receive an email from you today. I receive the message to mica, alembic and info addresses.

Hope you like the Excel.

Mica,

Thanks for the response!  I actually LOVE the new bass!  I wish I had taken the Alembic 'plunge' long ago and saved myself ALOT of aggravation and disappointment with other makes.

Strange, Val said he didn't receive the mail I sent him either.  Hmmmm...

Anyway, there are just minor discrepancies between the bass and the documentation (serial number one digit off and output jack in 'wrong' location), which I won't worry about now.  I was mostly asking for registration purposes, but now I will just go ahead and register using the number that is on the headstock.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

I figured out what happened to your email. You sent it to help@alembic.com which is the perfect place to send it. However, yesterday I was out of the office, and with the rest of the staff shorthanded, nobody had a chance to check that email for the day. Mystery solved!

Glad you're enjoying the bass. I didn't intend the Excel to be one of our best fretless basses when I designed it, but it turned out to be an excellent fretless.
