Wyzard's Series Bass, on Reverb
« on: October 04, 2023, 10:45:54 AM »

Should make for a good discussion... I think we saw a look-alike a couple-three years ago, maybe five now. This might be the real-deal.

Here is the old thread on the look-alike that was not Wyzard's bass. https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=23429.msg234701#msg234701 As noted within, his Alembic had a Master Volume added...

The subject bass of this thread appears to be early/mid-'77 or maybe a bit later, to my eye. Could be a '76 with some newer parts and repairs. Has two truss rods, but no cover. Square battery box cover, which is an older feature. Pickup placement is very close to my '77. Bridge and bird tailpiece look like later issue. Can't see enough detail in the picture of the logo to tell if cast or handcut. If there's a serial number in the end of the fingerboard I can't see it, which suggests it was/is probably stamped in the end of the headstock, and now obscured.

Not that any of that means anything, I just notice stuff.

Stories are fun! A 1976 or 1977 of course would have the serial number stamped on the end of the peghead. I think this was painted more than once, so sanding down/filling up those numbers would be expected - and you never know how deep they were to begin with. Some people barely made an impression in the wood and others knocked it to the other end of the bass.

Neat bass! The truss rod pocket is not a pretty sight or the cracks around the controls, but hey...

I feel the price is too high but think whoever is interested could reach out to Wizard to validate the pictures reflect his bass.
