If they think a 2X10 is a bass amp, you have a moral obligation to try to blow those guitar speakers!
there seems to be a perception that a 2x10 with a 250-watt head by itself is a bass amp. i'm here to tell ya that it
ain't. at least if you're gonna play at volume and not have your lower 2 strings dissapear into sludge when ya lean on em like i does. i could see the grille cloth flapping on that amp when i was pounding on it. it was good nad hot when we wrapped up. haven't tried a 4x10. not really interested when i can get all the thump i need out of a good 1x15 and a coupla hunnert watts. i'll use the 2x10 for my mids and highs.
as i'm prepping for another day in the woodshed, i got to thinking about this studio setup. i think they're getting $100/hr (cash only) for rehersal time. apparently they got people standing in line for it because we had to jockey for a time slot. all the gear was stuff that you'd find laying around the used pile at GC. so i think they're making money hand-over-fist for not a lot of capital investment. if something craps out, there's at least 3 GCs in the metro area and they all seem to have well-stocked used gear pile. apparently the nieghbors haven't picked up on the business activity there. gotta wonder what the guys at the zoning office would have to say about it.
it's funny - any self-respecting guit@r player woulda turned tail given that option for an amp. a bass player has to grin and bear it or bring they own amp. pretty sure they undersized the bass amp just for guys like me who are gonna pull out all the stops to make themselves heard just to make sure no sound leaks outta the basement and blows their cover.
<edit>
btw fyi i'm also here to tell ya a MKdeluxe can pretty much take anything i can dish out (at least with my hands). didn't go outta tune. sound of the bass pretty much swamped out the sound of the crappy amp. drew a little blood yesterday. last time i did that i was beating the crap out of a bass with an OSB body.
