It's a 34" scale. The electronics were upgraded (by the original owner) to include a filter and Q-switch, rather than the asymmetrical bass and treble boost/cut tone controls it came with. I believe he sold these original electronics with the bass, and they could be reinstalled if one desired... many of us much prefer a filter and Q-switch. I actually like all of them, combined.

Here was the original sale page when it was new- https://alembic.stores.yahoo.net/custom5string.html

And here is the recent thread where Reid sold it- https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=27295.0

looked at it again in detail.  that balance K body makes it very tempting as im gigging with my essence and it's a little....chunky.

having played neck-thrus exclusively for a long time makes me reluctant to go back to anything else, alembic or not.

still looking for that series 5-string fretless to come my way before i kick the bucket.  not holding my breath...
Been down...now i'm out!

I did send the treble-bass circuit with the bass when I sold it. At one point, I planned to do a DIY East-Meets-West upgrade, but I could never get up enough nerve to drill into the top of that beautiful thing.

The Balance K body is a Master Class in ergonomic design. The two basses I had with that body style were, as Kyle McLaughlin might say, “Damn comfortable.”

Always cool when the bass you buy is featured on the Alembic website!
Thanks for sharing this.
$3,500 back a few years was a darn good deal!

It didn’t sell at $5k, so it’s now on reverb at $6895
