The OP wanted an LED light to tell him when the bass was plugged in.  He previously had a Distillate which had this feature.  Jimmy pointed out that side LEDs on a Series instrument will accomplish this purpose.

Bill, tgo

Ah, thank you :)

I use to own a Distillete in the 90's. I bought it used in 91. I don't remember model year. I could have been most likely an 80's model. It had the red beacon light near the jack.

for whatever reason, about a year or so ago i bought an exploiter-shaped distallate.  what i didn't know at the time was that it had serious electronic problems that basically entailed me removing the entire electronics package and hunting for a cold solder joint connection-by-connection.  after a long, drawn-out chase through the woods and remediation of the faulty joints, i found that the original red beacon was rather dowdy and out-of-date, so i replaced it with something cooler (imho) and high-tech. this LED uses about 1/10th the current of the original.  i had to fashion a plastic escutcheon out of 1/16" thick black plastic material in a laser engraver that mated the OD of the LED to the ID of the mounting hole in the body.  i'm a sucker for these kinda things, i like the effect when i'm playing in the dark.  It adds to the overall cachet of this bass imho. YMMV.  My kids get to fight over this bass once i kick the bucket, hope i didn't hurt the resale value  ::)

Been down...now i'm out!

How much will it cost for the red beacon installation on my series 1?

Hi Michael, from Japan.

I started my career of Alembic with Distillate Bass at 1981.
When I got Series Instruments, I was worried "Powered or not".
If you have the same idea, I have some ideas.

1: Do you use only 5 pin cable ?
I always use 5 pin cable. Older DS-5 has no power indicator, so I made LED cable.
The LED lighted when plugged it & works as cable checker for both circuits (plus & minus 18V).
2: Do you want LED when the 1/4 phone plugged in ?
The series instrument runs 2 batteries for ± 9V. But Series circuit is battery eater.
So I don't recommend additional LED load.
I think the LED works simply powered from 1/4 jack, but routing is difficult and irreversible.
3: Do you want Wireless environment ?
I recommended external battery box (4 batteries included) as Mark King used it.
Additional LED on 5 pin is fine.

I made LED cable and Ex.battery box at 2004. Both works fine !

Mica, i might want Ron to not only add a ---red beacon light---, but to also to the ---humcanceling/pickup upgrade--- that was mention in the "Hum and noise"post. I'm asking you on this post because i'm killing two birds with one stone. I spend almost $7000 on the bass. What price are we looking at? If you can't tell me on the forum, i'll just call Alembic. I had a nice phone converstion with you a few years ago about my regret selling my Disillete in Germany many years ago. LOL.

Look at the 1978 Series 1 mod. When the owner had the pickup selector moved, he took advantage of the open hole of the original pickup selector location and covered it with the Red led light. Very smart. Prevents unnecessary drilling.
