Is this OK or not?
« on: March 07, 2021, 04:54:41 PM »
Not a brand I have ever heard of but followed a link from UK Basschat to this bass maker
http://lutherie-letourneau.fr/index.php/portfolio/
If you hover your mouse over the bass that has an SC Deluxe styling the word Alembic appears, If you look on the guitar page, doing the same thing it shows the names Les Paul and Telecaster which I'm pretty sure isn't right either as Alembic is a brand and the other two are models owned by Gibson & Fender .
I thought companies making for example Les Paul copies called them single-cut as they are not Les Pauls. Fender copies are usually S-style or T-style, and basses J-style or P-style so as not to infringe.

No, it's not.

Doesn't seem kosher at all. I do like the look of that 8-string though.

89 Elan 6
88 Spoiler fretless
87 Spoiler fretted

While it is unethical I don't think the URL would violate any laws on proprietary information. The body styling or if he makes reference to Alembic in any description might but that is for an EU attorney to answer.

Interesting copies of quite a few instruments. Would I buy one? Nah.

And speaking of highly questionable OKness, I just got an e-mail from Eastman Guitars announcing this one:

https://eastwoodguitars.com/collections/custom-projects-list/products/eastwood-sp-i?utm_source=BACKLUND%20BUYERS&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=EWCS%2025th%20MARCH%202020%20%28TdZ4CP%29&_ke=eyJrbF9jb21wYW55X2lkIjogIk1UYlE5RSIsICJrbF9lbWFpbCI6ICJwZ2VybGFjaEBhb2wuY29tIn0%3D#progress

The e-mail pimped it thusly: "NEW: EASTWOOD SP-I
The Standard Point was the first guitar design that Alembic offered, and its shape can best be described as nothing short of iconic, as seen on stage when Carlos Alomar toured with David Bowie. This tribute model will be made at our top Korean factory, to the highest standards."

Not really; I have a Korean-made guitar that I just love.  It's a 1992 Epiphone Sheraton; I have played Gibson 335s (which wish they were Sheratons, poor plain things that they are) from every decade of manufacture except the '50s & '20s, and have yet to find one I'd trade it for.

Coz, we've been discussing the Eastwood here: https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=26154.0
And I'm with you on Korean instruments.  I have a couple of Cort  and Targa neck-thrus that are among the nicest Alembic-style guitars I've played, both made in Korea.

Now how in the heck did I miss that thread??

BTW, they also have an "Inspired By Bob Weir" model; alas, they copied the general-issue, plain Ibanez BW, not one of Bobby's custum Cowboy Fancy ones.
