Grateful Dead Backing Tracks
« on: May 05, 2020, 02:12:20 PM »
I don't know the music well enough to know how accurate these are but I found them when looking for jazz backing tracks.

I'm confident Bill tgo will be able to tell if they are any good.
If they are insulting to the die heard dead heads, please  accept my apologies....  ;D :o 8) :-X

Interesting find, thanks for posting. Did you check out any of the jazz, funk or afrobeat tracks, there is a variety of musical styles to choose from?

Just gave a quick listen to a few minutes from three of the GD tracks on the guys youtube channel. They seem like they would be fun, and have the most value, for lead guitarists or soloists in general. I didn't get far enough to comment on how accurate the chords are but the comments for Eyes of the World indicate that the chord sequence during the guitar solos is not 100% accurate. The music itself sounds nice but is kind of generic with none of the rhythmic idiosyncrasies that define the Dead's music. They appear to be free so this is certainly a nice resource for those that want to play/sing along and get their Jerry on.

To me a lot of what makes the Dead's music is the unique styles of the musicians themselves and you are not going to find that here. The backing tracks would be a good entry point for some players, once they have the basics of the songs down they could go back to the original recordings to try and learn the style if so inclined but for something to solo and practice over they seem more than adequate. I am going to check out the afrobeat tracks since I have been on an African music listening binge lately.

Mine came in a download, not on youtube.  I'm at the office right now, so I can't listen critically with guitar in hand.  But the first thing I noticed is it has EOTW listed as using E Major when it is actually an E Maj7.   One thing I have been doing is getting out my little Blackstar Fly 3 mini amp and jamming along with the Friday night GD Channel offerings.  Switching back and forth between Jerry and Bobby's parts.  Big fun, jammin' with the Dead!

I've actually been looking for something like this, with bass tracks omitted. I have a bunch of backing tracks from wikiloops that I play to for practice, even found a couple drummers and guitar players I prefer to play with, just because the pocket feels better with one combination over another. I'll give it a listen.  8)

I've been looking for that type of backing track with bass omitted also.  Have yet to find anything.  I have Band in a Box here and was thinking that could be used for that but the feel probably wouldn't be right.

The wiki loops site looks interesting...Ill have to record some of the bass patterns I've been coming up with and post them up and see if people are interested in them.

On another note, what are people using for an audio interface?  I've got a zoom H6 here that I believe I can connect to my iMac, but im not sure if it would work as an interface for jamming online

After a bunch of research, I purchased a Behringer Q502USB mixer off of reverb yesterday.  Looks like a good unit for Zoom and other on-line streaming.   Good reviews, good price (about $80), has built-in compression and 48v phantom power.  Looks like it’s also a good interface for recording, too.  They have some larger mixers in the same series with more inputs and features, but this one seemed more than adequate for my purposes.
