TC Electronics G-System
« on: January 25, 2020, 10:31:21 AM »
Is anyone using this unit? I'm interested in it and looked around a bit online but can't find if you can do sound on sound or if it has a sampler.  Also, how do you like it?

I used their less expensive one for a while but ultimately let it go. I like my real pedal board better as I think the real pedals sat better in the band mix and came through more.
I did like the fact that for the cover band I was in, I could use a different setting for each song and it was easy enough to use.

Yeah I was thinking the setting for sound A, B etc would be handy. I'd be using it in conjunction with the pedals I have now. And be using it for guitar, too.

I like options. Maybe there's a better MFX unit out there that's newer and has what I'm looking for I Just haven't come up with anything else and I know TC is  good brand..

I recall reading somewhere that Stanley uses it as his modulaion, delay, reverb unit...
Not just a bass, this is an Alembic!

Nice thanks! I'm using a few of those pedals. Set a lot differently tho.  He says it loops but I can't find anything about it looping. The loops seem to be able to feed other effects into the "loop."  But haven't seen anything about actually looping.  After reading more about it, I can see why it's G "system"  It looks like it would be a good part of a whole system of effects but maybe not that great by itself.

My old MFX unit was a Digitech *(which I liked a lot) but something happened and it has a giant buzz now and the selector knob doesn't work. It's from the 80s so I'm sure it's not worth fixing. That's why I was looking into something new.

Who’s bright idea was it to call boxes that take effects in and out of the signal chain, as well as boxes that record, play back, and overdub on the fly, both “loopers”?  Didn’t someone realize these are two very different items?   The mind boggles!

Stefanie,
Are you seeking something that will give you the ability to do as the fkj & Masego video you posted 4 days ago?
If yes - then I will be watching this closely.  It would be entertaining to have a decent layering looper to play with.

I am, but  I need a good MFX unit first for my guitar (and it would be nice to use with the bass, too.)

Looking at loopers it looks like a lot of people use and recommend the Boss 505 Loop Station. I believe I saw one in the video, as well. So that will most likely be the starting point for me. So much new gear to get, lol! Gotta line up more shows  ;D

I like the Boss 505. Now if only I had the patience, or talent, or both, to use it properly!  But I’m also very impressed with any TC Electronics products.

So here's my work in progress board now.  I still need a volume and expression pedal. The Boss distortion is getting replaced with the Nova Drive so I can control it with the G-System. I'm super impressed with the G-System. It's really opened up a lot of sounds I hadn't thought about. So far I've only programmed in 10 patches, but am still working on more.  I'm trying to come up with a decent patch to make the electric sound like an acoustic. lol. Maybe.. even if it's close I'll be happy for now.

Stefanie,
That looks really cool would love to hear some sound bites once you get settled into it.
At the same time I see on the G-System what appears to be multi-function buttons and that often creates confusion/ frustration for me.

Almost all the buttons are multi function. But, they're arranged in a pretty simple way.  To do anything though is a multi-step operation.  I've programmed in 9 patches so far. That took a few hours but in a good way. Try something, play a bit, see how I like it, change this or that, play again... it's kind of inspiring (for now, lol) It's like learning anything. At first it's a bit frustrating ;) I could see someone not liking it if they never had a mfx unit before.

Sounds challenging but rewarding in the end, looking forward to hearing what you come up with!
