Ginger Baker has passed
« on: October 06, 2019, 04:38:38 AM »
Though we tend to focus more on guitar and bass players, Ginger Baker stands out for me because of Cream and the impact that their collaboration had on my life and on so much of the music that was to follow.  And for that I am grateful.

BBC story this morning.

RIP Mr. Baker. They don’t make them like that anymore. A true genius who was comfortable in so many musical genres.

Amazing drummer, and the only guy in rock ‘n roll that could make Keith Richards look healthy!

   For Ginger Baker ;
I am sad again but glad for what you offered us . Sad for this loss but you left us with so much .
We shall remember you for what you offered us and  thus for evermore your spirt shall ignite humanity.

I am saddened to have heard this news. Mr. B. was always my favorite drummer. Now he and Jack will form one helluva rhythm section in the sky....

He was one of those drummers that I had heard and not known who he was until I saw him on a documentary in the UK, most likely on the BBC where he was talking about the influence of African drumming on his playing. I later enjoyed his playing on the Blind Faith Album and the track Do what you like is the first drum solo I can recall ever hearing and taking note of. We used to play that track in the first band I played in back in the late 70's.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

Not many rock drummers could do what he did on "White Room", etc.
The stuff with Bill & Charlie? Maybe Bill Kruetzmann or Chris Layton.........

Rumored to perhaps be a tad irascible - but man, what a talent!
