... unless you are John Entwistle.  I could never figure out how the guy did it.  But he sure did it!

He played with an incredibly light tough - almost brushing the strings, with the amp gains cranked HIGH. Huge dynamic range available too!

JV, if it's only the G-string and the others are fine, and it only does this whilst slapping, I'd tend to think string height-over-over-the-last-fret is a little bit low on that side.  I'd raise ONLY that side of the bridge via the screw a wee bit a time and see if it goes away.  Since all four are fine finger-picked, and three are fine slapped, I would not think it's a 'global' adjustment via the truss rods.  If it's happening more closer to the nut, same thing in reverse:  Raise the nut on that side slightly and see if that gets it.

Thought this is a good thread to ask about string slapping sound.  I’ve done Joey’s set up. No buzzing and intonation is good.  The issue I have is the sound of the strings slapping against the frets.  It’s primarily an issue on my five string bass.  In order to eliminate (or greatly reduce) the string slapping sound I have to add bow and raise the strings a bit more than I’d like, making it less comfortable to play.  Any thoughts, or do I just accept that the strings on this bass will be set higher compared to my four string bass?  Thanks.
