Doppelgänger siting in Lushoto, Tanzaniaw
« on: July 26, 2019, 04:31:24 AM »
Recently spent 10 days in Tanzania in the Lushoto area attending an international inclusive education conference. During my time there I saw somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-15 SUVs with tires hanging off the back of them with covers that bore a portrait of a gentleman bearing a striking resemblance to our very own Jazzyvee. Unfortunately, because of my position in the vehicle I was never able to get my phone out in time to snap a photo.

I asked our driver who the very distinguished looking gentleman was and was informed that he ran the largest Toyota dealership in that area of the country. Alas, the image did not show the gentleman with an Alembic in his hands so I knew it couldn't possibly be Jazzy but must be a double.  Any distant relatives in Tanzania Jazzy?

P.S. Incredible country, with some of the best East African music I've ever heard including a group with a heavy brass influence that included schoolchildren who didn't look to be more than 5-6 years old but who could play with the best,

I've known some folks in the past that appear to have a non-biological twin...in one case two people shared not only looks and facial features but also mannerisms.  They didn't know one another either.  It was actually kind of creepy.

Phil Lesh recounts seeing his double in Germany in '72; cat was a symphony player.

When I was a teenager, i worked one summer at Boy Scout camp; there a guy from another town there named Dave Matthews (no, not that Dave Matthews - thankfully), same height, same build, same glasses, same shoulder-length brown hair - and similar enough faces that my mother couldn't tell us apart at 10 feet.

Ekkkk! Some of us were abducted and then cloned...
There used to be a guy who looked just like me living in my same city. Last year I came across a guy who looked and acted just like my best friend from 30 years ago (who is now gone). I think they forget to break all the molds we were made from.

Well, indeed Hammer, an interesting experience. As far as I know I have no living relatives over there. I have however seen my double in the mid 90's on a holiday in the Caribbean. I was walking up street and saw him walking down the other side of the street and we stopped stared at each other in disbelief waved and went about our business. He was also wearing a black vest type T-shirt, blue denim shorts, training shoes and dreadlocks the same as mine, same height and build and skin colouring too. It was like looking in a mirror and I guess it was the same for him.

Some people think me and my bass-playing buddy Joe Hannabach look alike, and I agree to the extent we used to a little bit, but the original confusion was mostly circumstantial.

Story goes; several years ago at a fiddlers convention, I had handed off my upright bass to Joe at a jam and laid down to nurse one of my splitting headaches. Some people who had walked up to watch and listen to the jam saw Joe, and assumed it was me on bass. Joe, realizing they didn't know, and thinking it would be funny, decided to play along as me. By the end of the week, we had started switching shirts and hats and standing in with each other's bands for pictures. It kinda' became a standing joke around the musicians campground Joe and I were stunt-doubles.

A really weird coincidence though, last year at that same festival, I bumped into Joe and found out he and I also both had to have the same cervical fusion surgery. (mine was pending at the time) So now we have a matching scar too!

Ha. At a gig one time there was a table with three women seated and watching the band. The waitress comes up to the stage and hands me a bottle of beer pointing to the table and so on break I sauntered on over to thank the ladies for the beer. One of them is staring hard at me and blurts out”You look exactly like my husband. You could be his twin.” My ego deflated instantly.
