Such dings are not that difficult to repair yourself. The first method is to try to raise the wood with moisture. Take a small piece of cloth, like a piece of old T-shirt, and soak it with water. Fold it once or twice and place it over the ding. Then take a hot soldering iron and roll it back and forth over the wet cloth on top of the ding. You may have to re-soak the cloth and apply the iron several times. This will sometimes cause the wood in the ding to swell back to shape, or closer to it. If this doesn’t work, or only partially works, the next step is to fill the ding with super glue. Depending in the size of the ding, you may have to use several layers of super glue. Once filled, it can be sanded with fine sandpaper (400 grit or higher). I have filled numerous dings with this method. You can usually still see them, if you know where to look, but your thumb will no longer feel the ding.
