My New Mini Amp + Tie-Dye
« on: December 14, 2018, 06:48:22 PM »
I recently picked up a Quilter 101 Mini Reverb Head and their Blockdock 10tc Cab.  WOW!  This thing sounds darn good and truly AMAZING for its size.  I got the head for a backup and the Blockdock so it doubles as a lightweight (17lbs.) grab 'n go rig.  I couldn't resist adding the new grill cover.  I'm including a pic with an EHX B-9 pedal to give size perspective.

The built in limiter seems a nice feature.

Groovy grillcloth!   And 17 pounds?  I think the tubes in my amp weigh more than that.
I had never heard of Quilter, so of course I hied myself right over their website. As a true lover of 15" speakers for guitar, I particularly checked out the Steelaire series; I gotta say, it takes a certain amount of hubris to do your demo vid for your SS amp with a Tele - and, at least through my computer into my cans, their confidence is not misplaced.  What's the world coming to??

Quilter is the Q in QSC, you may have heard that name before. ;D

The tie-dye cloth is divine! Mandelbrot rules! Or octopus? :)

I  really need to upgrade my livingroom bass amp situation, and have been eyeing a QSC K.12.2 powered speaker.

Ah!  Indeed I have!  In my soundman days, I had many a QSC crap out on me mid-gig.......

I like to think of the design as a cresting wave.  I got it off of eBay, advertised as "Psychedelic Tie Dye Bandana" for $1.98 BIN.  I also paid $0.19 shipping, but it's now listed as free shipping.  (Hey, I got ripped off for nineteen cents!).  It still blows me away that a bandana was more than big enough!

As for reliability, I did a lot of research and found no complaints about Quilters breaking down or having problems.  The most common complaint is about their proprietary tone stack comprised of a "Tri-Q" and a "Hi-Cut" knob.  Fortunately, they don't use it on all their amps.   My 101 mini reverb employs a more Fender-like tone stack, Bass, Mid, and Treble.  The only difference is that the mid is active.  I see the Steelaire also comes with a more Fender style tone stack.

love the tie dye.  I see a fibonacci spiral there.
