Well, it's been a minute since I updated this one...
So, a while back I ended up with a second DeArmond Starfire II, essentially identical to the sunburst one I've been posting on here, but a year newer. It has had a set of the Westerly R.I. pickups installed in place of the DeArmond USA models that came in these, but they honestly don't sound all that different... that's more an observation than a criticism. They sound just fine; a little darker than I like personally, but totally workable.
So with the redundancy, I have a few options to weigh here.
1. I could leave this black one as-is and sell, or maybe give it to my nephew, who is lately more interested in bass. The major sticking point being that I do nothing and it's gone.
2. I could Alembicize this one too, and make it a fretless companion, since that's how I usually roll. Mica's crew is making the alpha-set for D'A Starfires already using my stuff for molds/patterns, so set #2 will be no problem to produce.
3. I could Alembicize this black one instead of the sunburst one, then buy a set of the Guild Bisonics (which I much prefer to the stock original pickups or these Westerlys) for the sunburst model. (it is drilled for the larger pickup surrounds for Bisonics anyway)
4. Fill in the blank.
