Build Record for my bass
« on: November 22, 2003, 04:06:55 PM »
Hi Mica,

This one is right up you alley.

I'm requesting a copy of the build record for bass #77-875.

I bought this bass last summer and have requested the build record before. I've re-registered this bass to me. When I called you folks, I was told  it wouldn't be a problem to get this information.

I'm still waiting......

If I need to pay for this information, please let me know how much it will cost.

I aslo would like some other information about this bass. This inquiring mind really wants to know!

Since you folks have all of the details about how much your basses cost to produce, how much money would this particular bass cost me if I were to buy it in 1977?

I have this idea that back then, all of the Series I basses were made-to-order, and as part of the price, a custom made flight case was a standard part of the order. Is that assumption correct?

These are just some burning questions I have about Alembic basses created in the early days that may apply to my particular bass.

I really would like that build information though.

Thanks for all you do, Mica.

Keep making those fantasitc basses!

Bob

Hello Bob,

here's what I found:

5 string long scale series bass.
Schedua top & back
Maple/purpleheart neck
Zebrawood peghead
mother of pearl inlays
mahogany body

That's all the file says.
In regards to the case, the customer has always had the choice. In the mid to late seventies a lot of folks has us order them Anvil flight cases, but it was not a standard feature.

Unfortunately, I was not able to locate price lists from 25 years ago , so I can't tell you how much your bass cost in 1977.

Bob - I purchased a new Alembic in 1978.  I did not pay list for it, but I bought it for $1550.00. It was a medium scale bass with the point style body.  I wonder where that bass is today? It's serial number was 78-1058. I had it a few months and swapped it for an Alembic with a small standard body.

Hi Everybody,

Thanks for this information. I would think that back then, a Series I would cost a lot more, but then again prices for goods and services may have gone up tremendously!

Schedua huh? I've never heard of that wood before, but it sounds like a red wood you folks used in the 70's for building basses.

Its really beautiful. Like I say, those basses including mine are eye candy. I can't stop looking at them!

Thanks for the information as sparse as it is. You folks at Alembic do a great job!
