Funny, I couldn't have told you which style I have without looking.  And it seems I have a variety.  The shiniest is the road bass which was refinished a couple years ago.  The others, I know, could use a bit of polish.

I don't think I was ever specific about this kind of design detail on my basses, preferring to leave these things to Susan, Mica and the builders.  They have a great eye for it and have done it a few times!  That said, when you go custom they can literally do whatever you can dream up.  Just be careful not to get too hung up on the small details.

Thanks Greg! You know your TI's! You are right about the sound, that is my favorite bass for gigging, I love the sound of the Flats on it.   It's my only bass I have with flats, the rest have rounds. Can't wait to see your newbie!

Nice JJ, I didn't realise you had so many alembic basses although I guess it should be obvious to me that you would cover every eventuality.  Are all your basses series II or are they a mix of Series I and II.
Ok sorry for thread diversion. :-)
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

No sweat Jazzy, this thread needed a diversion.  ;D  I'm always fascinated by where these things sometimes lead. (back-lit logos, for example)

Like I was saying at the top of the thread, this is such a small detail that I'd really have been better off not to have thought twice about it. Jimmy's right on... I will trust the experienced eyes on this one and wait anxiously to see what they come up with. I must have looked at every Showcase or FTC thread there is over the past couple years, and can't say I ever saw a poorly thought-out Alembic.  8)

FWIW, option number one.  Not digging the logo right above the nut.  Looks better centered to me for your headstock.

Dear hijackers (sorry Gregory - your new axe is looking great by the way):
Jazzy, 2-fretless basses 80 & 82 are Series I, the 3-fretted basses are Series II
Kenn, that one is rarely played and I don't think it's bone, although it's clearly not brass.  Ha!

I love the logo placement on my doubleneck - it's kind of irrelevant to this conversation but I can't help but post a picture (plus it's actually similar to #12)

Not really, Edwin earlier brought up the concept of putting the logo somewhere on the body instead of the headstock. Your doubleneck is quite cool but so far I have been too intimidated by its size to try and play it, especially since I would never put anybody in a position of having to listen to me play fretless...

Keavin - Don't you have 2 logos on your bass?   I thought you had one on the headstock too.   No?

Inasmuch as I like the extra one on Keavin's Ol' #12, and Harry's vintage double-neck, I'm afraid it wouldn't work out so well on my Omega body.  ;D

I love knowing those early instruments are still getting played.  8)

OK, I will veer off topic with an irrelevant comment. Harry's fretless neck on that double monster is hands down my favorite fretless ever. It just does what a fretless should do.
