As a way of lifting the mood on what has been an appalling year for celebrities, I'd just like to wish Kirk Douglas an amazing 100th Birthday and hopefully many more.

I met him at a book signing in the Chicago area in the early nineties.  We chatted for about 10 minutes, mostly about the re-release of Sparticus.  He was quite charming and humble.
