Something You Don't See Too Often
« on: October 11, 2016, 11:53:01 AM »
A 1000 amp circuit breaker. There's a dime in front of it for scale.

This one came from a pump station that houses two 800 horsepower motors that drive two 20 MGD (million gallons per/day) pumps. This one was the most expensive victim of last weekends weather. Thanks Matthew!  ::)

I can't speak to this specific one but a Square D three pole 1000A/600VAC breaker will set you back $21,391 from Grainger.

That's probably about right Keith. I didn't ask, but the Chief Electrician said it was just stupid expensive. Fortunately, we had another one that had been taken out of a moth-balled station on the other side of town a couple years ago, and stashed away for just such an event.

Did anyone else notice it was a Series 2? (naturally, that adds a little value, even on the used market, right?) ;D

Speaking of Pump Stations, this one is down your way, just a few streets over from where I grew up in Raleigh... you may have driven by and not even seen it.

I wouldn't have given the place a second thought. However now I will have to look for it the next time we head to Cameron Village.
