Unusual Uncommon 'mustache' tailpiece. Ooh, and a brass plate over the battery box between pickups... (what?!)

Saw this earlier, beautiful piece of walnut and the tailpiece is really cool, one of the nicer early guitars that I have seen. No mention of whether the power supply comes with it (assuming the pickups are indeed Series pickups). Also not sure what is up with the brass plate where the dummy pickup would be. Will be surprised if it sells for anywhere near the asking price, though.

I believe that plate is the battery cover. Could be wrong, though.

In the early models the battery compartment was between the pickups. The hum canceler was inside the body.

So it's not an actual dummy pickup? Wouldn't that make it a dummy dummy?

Thanks for the info about the battery compartment. Do any of the early basses have the same type of arrangement?

Really is a fine example of one of the early guitars. I can definitely see someone lusting after it.

This guitar should be among the last to have the hum-cancelling coil  glued inside the body, and the battery compartment between the pickups. Guitar #73-46, as well as #47 and #49 (both, Small Standard basses) also share this feature.

The reason I mentioned that trivia is because my custom fretless was done that way too, as a nod to the early days at Alembic.
