Dr. Ralph Stanley passes...

One of the true pioneers of bluegrass music died yesterday evening. Not too many of that first generation are left. The Stanley sound was very much an acquired taste, very raw and un-homogenized, but there's a lot of bluegrass music that simply would not exist today were it not for his, and his late brother Carter's influence.

Saw the sad news this morning. Such a shame to watch all the true pioneers slowly pass but of course each leaves us with an amazing legacy of music that lives on. RIP...

We will all be persons of constant sorrow, at least for a while. It's hard to get over losing the old ones. I just loved the sound of Ralph's voice. No one else sings like he did.
