Currently I own an Epic 4 but recently I played a 5 string Musicman and now I have to own Alembic 5.I won't own anything else but Alembic.For years I have had a powerful hankering for a Rogue but I am unsure about the electronics.My Epic has a mighty tone that everybody loves and the electronics are simple to use.A while back,somebody loaned me an Alembic custom with filter electronics sort of like my SF-2.I just couldn't get the same massive,tightly focused,low end that I am used to with my Epic,so I gave it back.I mainly use the neck side pickup by the way.My question is this.How are the electronics different from the Epic to the Rogue?I am going to buy a Rogue 5 somewhere,somehow but I want to be sure that I can get the same tone I'm used to.I've been doing some high profile gigs with Kenny Brack and the Subwoofers and all the sound people I have worked with so far are stunned and amazed by the sound of the Epic as well as recording personel.

I can't speak to how the electronics differ but I can tell you my Rogue 5 is the warmest and best sounding of my 4 Alembics. If it's low end you're after I am pretty certain the Rogue will not disappoint. I switch to my Exploiter when I want a clean high end punch. Not that the Rogue doesn't provide highs because it certainly does. I can't express enough good things about my Rogue. When I first got it I thought I had just obsoleted my other basses. I hadn't, I just found other uses for them but the Rogue gets the most playing time......

Dave-

In your search, remember that with Alembics everything that goes into the bass impacts the tone. The Epic is a set neck where the standard Rogue is neck-through. That single fact will make a huge difference. Have you considered an Epic 5 made out of the same woods? That would come closest to guaranteeing the tone. And, as we all know, Alembic will mix and match bodies with electronics all day long. So you could get a Rogue body with Epic electronics. You might even get lucky and find out that someone has already paid the template cost to do a set-neck Rogue......

Actually, I saw a second-hand set-neck Rogue with Jazz-style p-ups on www.bassnw.com about a year ago... It's not there anymore, but now you can suspect there IS a set-neck Rogue template! ;-)

That's it wayne.I want a neck through bass.That's the only thing I don't like about my Epic.When the time comes,I will stick with the Rogue electronics.I just hope I don't have to wait much longer.
