Since its inception in 2002, the Alembic Club has been home to a steadily growing group of enthusiasts, sharing a passion for some of the finest musical instruments in the world. To its regulars, who are effectively house guests of the Wickersham family, the pervasive atmosphere of comradery and good-natured fun has been a welcome alternative to the Wild West nature of many other message boards. This has also meant that the Club could thrive without constant supervision from the board moderators; e.g. to date, no member has ever been banned.
However, over the past few months the Alembic Club has seen a number of threads where the general tone became confrontational, and at times unsettling. After careful consideration the moderators decided to make a number of changes to the board rules, to help members more easily recognize the blurry social boundaries that exist on-line, and encourage them to contribute to a positive atmosphere. The moderators also decided to ask three long-standing Club members to join the team, and they gracefully accepted the challenge: Keith Humphrey (keith_h), Art Lubin (artswork99) and Adriaan Simons (adriaan).
