Series I Filter Settings

I've always pegged-out the controls on my instruments and used my amp to set the tone.  However, I've been using my Series I a lot more lately and I'm just now starting to REALLY appreciate the palette of tones that are possible. If I'm just noodling around, I prefer the filters wide open.  However, I've found that that tone is usually a little too in your face in the context of a song.  The approach I'm taking is to isolate the neck PUP and dial in a fairly generic Fenderish (is that a word?) tone and then dial in some spice by adjusting the bridge PUP's volume and filter. That seems to work for me, but I was just wondering if any of you have a particular approach to finding a tone with Series electronics.

I like to approach each situation from a fresh perspective  from an individual stand point. I try to accommodate the needs of the client as per the needs of the music; and therefore is generally a very relative process to the collective content of the 'Musical work  for which I am supplying my Bass playing.
 
          In reading and rereading your post your I think that your method is a good logical and methodical way to proceed to attain on what I state in my paragraph above. I do this for the most part in the same way .
         
           My method differs just a little from yours in that I like to start with the EQ on the AMP or Preamp  side FLAT , then I proceed as to your description . I do this for all of my Bass's , not just the ALEMBIC SERIES II .

I generally like my filters wide open with the cvq's at 3/4, with my amp set with bass at 10, midrange at 1/2, & treble 3/4.

Mike, that's pretty much what I do to start out with my alt country/southern rock band.  As the night progresses I'll often stray from that depending on the room and where we end up (on long nights, especially when we're doing covers, we sometimes drift out of genre...)

Having a Signature bass without the luxury of CVQ, the bands I usually play in play a variety of covers which necessitate changing the tone sometimes for each song.
On instance is Queen's Crazy Little Thing Called Love' so I dial the front PU and turn the filter off(nice and bassy), if it is a rock number, then open the filters up etc etc.
If I am in the jazz quintet I usually just the front PU with the filter off.
Alembics are like a mixed bag of candy..loads to choose from!
