I just purchased an Epic 5 string bass and plugged it into a 6 month old Ampeg BA300/210 amplifier. There is an obvious rattle when I play the B string at moderate to high volume levels. I took it to an authorized repair person. He tightened any loose screws on the outside and on the speakers. When he would press against the back heat sink or sections of the back of the amp the rattle would stop. He thinks the amp is just not constructed well enough for a 5 string. Is this a common problem with bass amps and 5 strings basses ? He is contacting Ampeg to see about replacement, but I'm not confident that they will agree to this.

I have a GK RB-1001ii that I run into an Ampeg SVT-1540HE which sounds amazing with 5 strings, the GK head has a push button for 5 strings to make it sound better, if you decide to sell than I suggest these, good luck

Could some sort of heat resistant material placed between the chassis and components to eliminate this or maybe stand off bolts as used in PC's to mount the motherboards.
Another suggestion would be to place a rubber mat between the speaker cab and amphead to dampen the vibration.

I used to set my amprack on it's side on the ground beside the speaker to prevent excessive vibration damage. The rubber mat is a great idea, too.

If this is your first five, you will slowly find LOTS of things that didn't vibrate before as you found those low C's and D's . . . .

Maybe I should stay away from the B string. I should have gotten a 4 string !

I used to have a deal with Ampeg. I gave it up because I wasn't happy with the tone. I am using a GK 1001 RB-II through a GK 410RBH and 115RBH.

I just traded a 5 string Epic for a 4 string because it seemed that I was never using the low B. I played with my friend's band today and realized that I missed the B. If you want to make a trade, we can exchange pictures and work something out.
