Getting Alembic Bass Signed by Stanley Clarke

I am going to see Stanley Clarke at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside PA on Monday 6/21/2010 and wanted to try to get my S.C. type bass autographed by him. I sent a message on Twitter and Facebook asking if he would do that. The people at the Keswick said I could only bring the Bass in if I had permission from him ahead of time. Anyone have any idea on how to get this request to him before the show?

You might just remove the back plate and have him sign that.  You should be able to get the plate into the venue in your pocket, I would think.

Yes , I like the back plate idea too, because that way if the signature ends up being a hideous scribble you have ultimate control to decide if you really want to keep it !    Options  !

I took off the backplate of my SC bass when I went to see Stanley Clarke in London a few years ago but that night he wasn't interested in signing autographs or really talking to anyone. He came out and virtually ran through the small waiting crowd of us waiting inside with a comment that he would be back in a short while.....  
 
I'd decided anyway to have the autograph on the inside of the backplate instead of having it visible on the outside, that way it would have been a personal thing for me.
Alas it never happened.

Stan is one on my heroes..most probably the only one with Mark King being second(as he is from the UK)
I bet in the early days he would willingly sign anything but as time goes on and fame increases I have the assumption that they forget about the people who put them on that pedestal in the first place.
It take about 1 second to sign something, if you cannot take that small amount of time to do that then you need to re think your values to the people who bought your albums and paid to see your shows.
The backlplate is the better idea and I hope it happens for you. Keep us posted

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll bring my backplate and see how it works out. Its alot easier to carry thats for sure. I'm in the 9th row so maybe I should make a sign asking him. But I'll just see after the show if there is an chance but if not oh well. I have an autographed copy of East River Drive.
And I wish Mark King would come play in the States, I'd like to see him live. I have a couple DVD's of him and Level 42. You can see why he puts tape on his thumb.

After mentioning Monk Montgomery, Stanley deleted my blog.
 
Monk was running flurries on the upright and electric bass before Stanley Clarke was born. In fact Monk was the first professional electric bassist to play an electric bass, when everybody else was playing the upright bass. Monk is the God-Father of the Electric Bass. So much on educational exchanges with Stanley's website... it's now just a commercial buy my new CD site.

I saw Stanley at Jazz Alley in Seattle 6 months ago. He invited the whole audience back to the dressing room to sign autographs. He is a very kind man. And supportive of students of the bass.

When my son and I saw RTF in June 2009, the entire band stayed onstage after the show, signing autographs, chatting and shaking hands for about 8 - 10 minutes.  I took both of my Alembic control cavity plates to be signed.  As Stanley was walking away I called his name.  He looked over and nodded as he kept walking.  Maybe if I had held up the plates and a Sharpie he would have signed them.  I take the blame for not getting them signed, as Stanley and the others were there for quite a while.
My son did get Chick to sign his ticket, so it was worth the wait.

Stanley actually stayed and signed autograph's after the show. I got a copy of his new CD and a poster signed. When he saw I had an Alembic shirt on he said Nice Shirt and I told him about trying to reach him about getting my bass autographed. He said I should have brought it with me. He gave me his tour managers name and said for me to come see them in Central Park and find the tour manager and he would get me backstage to get the Bass signed. Unfortunately to to the recent sudden and tragic death of a very close friend I could not go to Central Park. I will try to contact him and see if there is another way to get it signed.
He couldn't have been nicer. He posed for pictures and sat there giving autographs to everyone waiting. Oh and his playing wasn't bad either.
