F-X1 maxed to 10
« on: July 29, 2010, 05:32:23 PM »
Last Saturday during my rock gig I noticed that the bass tones of my rig really engulfed the room, it wasn't really loud but the bass just filled the room so completely that all the guitar player could say was WOW. During the set break I went to check out the bass setting and I notised that somehow the F-1X was turned up to the Max #10. My question is, will running the FX @ volume 10 hurt the FX in anyway? Any other suggestions volume wise?
Thanks!
Chalie

The F-1X won't get hurt running at 10, but you might clip your amp and possibly damage the speakers.

Of course, if the speakers weren't damaged, then you're all ok!

Firstly let me say that your rig is well....WOW!!!
My thought is that no damage can be done to the F-1X such that if there is a setting
for max 10 and the circuitry would be tolerant of allowing the setting.
Most likely those 18 speakers found their sweet spot and kicked in. Combination of poweramp
setting and the efficiency of the speakers.

By the way I think I heard your set here (in Oz)

Thank you so much for your information Mica!
My amp may have clipped 2-3 times, I kept a close eye on it!.
Hey Slawie,
I really appreciate your comments concerning my rig! I hope that the Wizzard  of OZ dug the Low Frequencies too!
Yo Tomahawk,
You have a keen eye for woods! You are correct!
But I really dig your axe! I have been following your remarks about funk, the bassists that have blazed the trail using the Alembic bass too. I'm a slapper from the early 70's...gotta have it (funk) it's GRRRREAT!!!! I'd love to hear you play!
Dave,
You are most excellent in your recall of past photos and wealth of information. I'm greatful for you pointing me in the direction of learning of my Distillate Bass beginnings!

Chalie,
I run my F1-X between 6 and 7 with my attenuators @ 2 o'clock (treble) and a hair past 3 o'clock (subs) as this seems to be the sweet spot for the amp and cabs. I'm running two Bag End Q10-BXD's and two S-18D's.
Get Down!

Hey Wattman,
Thanks for the information my brother!
You have the most excellent tatse in speakers too! What kind of power amps are you using, and where do you have it/them set at?
Lastly, I believe that I need to say thank you for that beautiful Distillate, it's in good loving hands (but I do spank that mofo from time to time!)Excellent thought in designing it! If I'm wrong in my assumption, please forgive me.

Chalie,
I've been using Crown power for the last 6 years. A K2 on my Bag End cabs (800 watts @ 4ohms per side) and a Macrotech 2400(same power ratings as the K2) to power two SVT's. The attenuators on the K2 are as stated in my last post-2 o'clock for the highs/mids and a hair past 3 o'clock for the subs. There is also a switch for each channel on the back of the amp which controls input sensitivity and has become vital to keep the amp from clipping since there is no preamp gain on the F1-X.  The SVT rig is on my band's other gear truck for fly in dates when we do them. I don't run the attenuators nearly as hot, more around 12 o'clock, after all it is driving those huge SVT's and one is really enough.
It's funny that my Bag End rig is no where near as loud as those SVT's but it has solved the problem of my band asking me to turn down!
As far as your Distillate, that's a killer bass and I'm not the guy that owned it. If I did, I'd probably be hanging myself for selling it! hahaha
Cheers!
