Britney spears - she needs help!
« on: February 13, 2008, 06:41:05 AM »
I cannot help but feel seriously concerned for this kid after reading so much about her in the newpapers lately!

Yes, her music (in my opinion) sucks, and her judgement calls/so called friends have been awful but being dignosed with bi-polar is not a small deal. One look at the demise of the great Jaco Pastorius, another bi-polar sufferer, should send warning bells ringing for the family of Ms Spears. Shaving her hair off, attacking cars with tree branches anyone? Just draw comparisons with the crazy antics performed by Jaco whilst he was pyschologically melting down!

Mental health issues are something that is generally regarded as taboo, many people just dont want to go there. Its sad.

What is it about the music industry and, indeed society, that feels the need to put these vulnerable messed up kids on a pedestal then rejoice in knocking them off?

As I have said, Im certainly no fan of BS, but she is a screwed up and I hope she gets sorted before its too late!

John.

I agree. True freinds need to step in and help this young lady. Problem is, how many TRUE friends does she have?

While I do think there are people who are bi-polar I wonder how many are diagnosed as such and their problem in reality stems from substance abuse. The problem here is that the Dr's may treat her bi-polarism with more medication.

While Jaco was a genius with some mental health issues he did have some addictions!

Something to think about, did the mental health problems make it easier to slip into the addcitions or did the addictions create the mental health problems.

Olie,

very valid point! I also know that Jaco was eaten up by regrets about the end of his marriage and the breakdown of his own particular family unit and took these issues to the grave!

I think that this was a contributing light to his touchpaper!

Another problem with being special and a star is that no-body wants to give you the unpleasant truth and use that important word NO.

John.

Good article about Brit in the current Rolling Stone. It looks like she has no regrets what everyone thinks about her and her actions. It leaves a big question mark about wether or not she has permanent drug damage, and if she will make it or not. That's serious and a real shame. A lot of her friends and family turned on her and sold her out to tabloids, etc., riding the wave of her fame and misfortune. I hope she has enough strength to survive.

I seriously doubt there is much in the way of help anyone can offer her.  What sort of parent would choose to put their child in the public spotlight in the way that this girl has been?  How many more child stars do we need to see self destruct before people realize that kids need to just be kids when they are young.  More importantly, who could feel comfortable with their underage daughter blatantly selling her sexuality.  I can't help but think that the obscenely poor parenting has imprinted wounds that no amount of council or good advice can overcome.  What sort of normal life will she ever have, and what sort of impact will her own mental issues have on the way in which her children are raised?  Sad indeed.  Better for her (and my ears) if the world have never heard her name.

sorry
no sympathy here
she and her family are trailer park trash
spoiled youngster turns into spoiled adult who brought this on herself.
like someone needs a brain to remember to put on underwear?
what she really needs is a strong slap in the face and a kick in the ass...
money meant she can do whatever she wants...
and she did...lets not forget her 16yr old pregnant sister.
i sort of like the new world we live in
if someone fs up- they are bi polar...
if i laugh one day and cry the next- i;m bi polar
i have had my share of issues like anyone else
i sought out help- i was diagnosed and i take my meds. i will probably take them til the day i die.
i am just plain out of sympanthy for the britneys  and all the other rich kids who f up cause they can afford to.

I guess my feelings are mixed:

There but by the grace of God go I (I've dealt with depression).

Snap out of it and get some self discipline.  You can't constantly self-destruct.

I for one am glad for her that her family took the huge step of having her involuntarily committed.  No drugs, regular meals, an opportunity to sleep on a regular basis can have a profound effect on the psyche.

As for attacking cars. That was a papparazi car, they were mercilessly streaking her constantly in her face with flashing cameras when all she wanted was to be left alone.

Can you blame her for losing her cool and venting her frustrations on one of their cars?

Look at Kurt Cobain, he also wanted people to leave him alone but the more he wanted to be left alone, the more people came after him, something had to give.

Maybe Congress can hold hearings on Britney after they've finished with Roger Clemens.  It's sooooooo comforting to know that my federal representatives are watching out for my interests in relation to these two incredibly important issues of the day!

Bill,

I agree with you completely on the Clemens issue- BUT one thing I will say, now that Congress has started it they better finish the thing.  If nothing else they need to prove to the American public that you can't lie while under oath and get away with it.  Bonds lied and either Clemens or his trainer are flat out lying.  They need to zing 'em for that.

I don't think it would be fair to punish Clemens or Bonds for lying about something that essentially affects them only, when our system encourages law enforcement officers to regularly lie under oath for the purpose of putting humans in cages.

Bill,

Just my opinion, but two wrongs don't make a right.

I'm of the opinion that the United States is falling apart at the seams.  It's probably just my conservative backbone, but I've always viewed American society this way: individual freedom within a set of rigid boundaries.  IMO, lying to a jury crosses one of those boundaries. I can't argue with you about 'putting humans in cages'- it's been that way for years and I don't really see any viable alternatives (The Brits already used up all the good 'penal colony' type continents =))

I totally agree that lying politicians, government officials and/or police officers are wrong as well- if I had a lie detector and could be judge I'd nail 'em all too.  However, I'm not giving Clemens or Bonds a free pass.  Marion Jones found out the hard way.....

At least while Congress is wasting time on steroids and football videotapes, they are not passing niggling laws to protect us from ourselves, and they're staying out of my wallet! (contempt of Congress?-Sir, you have no idea!)

Jeff (flaxattack):
My sympathy goes out to all the people who really need help, have to struggle to keep themselves alive (moneywise) and who are making the best of it with the little things they have.

Maybe Britney could care for as manny people like that as possible, would prob. make her feel better.
