Ben,

You should feel confident buying from the regulars here-

I purchased my Rogue from a fellow poster and will be selling it to another when my custom is finished.

I feel you on the shipping to NZ.  It cost me quite a bit to get the Rogue shipped down there.  Be prepared with the custom paperwork- the bass will get there surprisingly fast, but the time spent in customs will seem like an eternity if you don't get them what the need.  Whereabouts in Auckland are you?  If you're close enough to run down in person I'd recommend it- that's what I ended up doing.

Ben,
I bought a bass from a club member.  I had seen that he had done some business with other club members over time.  I contacted them and asked what kind of experience they had.  They all said that he was a straight up kind of guy and I felt better about the risk. The transaction was perfectly smooth.

cool, Hey Toby, have you experienced customs here in NewZealand? If it is sent and listed as a gift, you don\t pay duties correct? what sort of things do customs usually require? Yeah I will go to pick up the bass from the depot if thats what you meant?
cheers

Ben,

I did experience the customs process there.  I bought the bass from a club member in the US and had it shipped down to Hamilton.  There was a bit of customs paperwork and some declarations- I didn't declare it a gift.... I have my permanent residence, but really didn't feel like drawing the ire of customs or NZIS if they called my bluff.

Yeah- my suggestion is call up customs, let them know which carrier it's coming in on and then ask them if you can fill out paperwork in advance.  It'll make the process go quicker.

It didn't cost me anything- I declared the purchased value and told them it was used....

I kept waiting for the invoice to show up asking for import fees, but nothing ever came.  Who did you use to ship?  Mine came via FedEx.

Sold my Epic to a member here, everything went smoothly but left a bad taste in my mouth when he turned around and sold it for 300 dollars more than I charged him.
I bought it for a good price so I sold it for a good price. Not knocking him, just not something I would do.

Sean - I can see how that would leave a bad taste, but this is just the risk that you take selling stuff. Either you or the new owner might have gotten a better price, but not both of you. And so that's what the middle man walks away with.

This is where eBay makes sense - at least if the highest bidder doesn't pull out - and of course eBay is making money off of your sale to.
