jazzyvee...looked in good condition for a 79, as an ex Ford mechanic, they rotted from the floor upwards.
I had the GL model which was a Fred Flintstone car..ie holes in the floor pan, I gave it to a mate to weld some plates on it when he worked at British Steel, when it got MoT'ed the examiner said was I planning driving over a minefield..my mate had welded 3/8 steel plate to it and I wondered why it didn't accelerate!!
Those were the days....

Yep I had dodgy sills on that one eventually and the heater was always leaking and it was so bad that in winter it blew steam up through the vents which frosted the inside of the glass...!!! Not very good.

Yeah those were the days you could do work easily on  your own car. These days I can't even change the 6 spark plugs in my three cylinder smart car because the engine has to be removed to get them out....!!!

Sometimes not everything that is new means progress.

For reasons I never understood, my parents bought what had to be the only Cortina in the state of Ohio from the estate of a little old lady Latin teacher; I generally walked rather than be seen driving it.

cozmik..they were usually a teenagers first car, that or the Mini.
The engine bays were huge with this tiny engine in, not as jazzyvee says where most modern cars have two bonnets(hoods to you usa guys), the metal one on top and one inside the engine compartment.
Progress mean you cannot touch them which = large garage service bills.
